07-08 head unit in 04-06 TL

Hey guys,

I would like to put an 07-08 head unit (with MP3 capability) and clock display (which shows song title and artist) into my 04TL, but I also have the factory nav system. Do I have to change the whole unit, including the nav system from an 07-08 TL, or can I change the head unit and clock display only. I looked through the threads and can't find a clear answer to my question. I basically want to keep the OEM look of the dash, but have MP3 capability, ipod and XM radio. If anyone can answer my questions, or point the stupid noob to the right thread, I would greatly appreciate it. If anyone has any other options that would give me these features without ruining the OEM look of the dash, I'm all ears!!

Thanks!!

Ive actually been working on this for a while im wanting to do the same thing. I can tell you there will be some re-pinning because the 07 connector is a 40 pin and the pre 07 is not and of different style

Ok but do you have navigation in your car? I want to know if I can change the head unit and clock display only, or if I have to change the whole unit, including the nav system?

I believe the head unit from the 04-06 is different than the head unit from the 07-08. As djtsmith mentioned, it's different. You would need to find the electrical diagram of the two and compare notes and see what is different.

The link above has images of the 2 diagrams, PLUS you google the different year of head unit (04-06, 07-08) and view images of the rear you can visibly see one connector is significantly different...like i stated before in a earlier post. But there has been a member who has successfully done this....but the clock idea....im not sure yet ill follow up for you
