06' TL Nav Problem
06' TL Nav Problem
Please help me! I have a 06' TL not even a year old, and I’m having a lot of problems with my navigation. It is working intermittently. So first thing I took to the dealer. The dealer then told me that they think the reason why It’s not working is because I have an after market alarm in it. (I put a Clifford 750) I also had one of the top installers install it. So I went to the company that installed my alarm and they told me that, that has nothing to do with why my Navigation is not working. They told me it looks like I need a new touch panel. So I told Acura that. They said they didn’t want to touch my car until the alarm is out. So here I go back to the stereo shop have them take the alarm out for me. So then I called Acura back they scheduled me an appointment for this coming Monday. The Service Mgr. Told me it will only be under warranty if know one has tapped into any wires back there or cut anything. The other thing is that I have also installed to TV’s in the headrest and I also had a rearview cam installed in it. Whatcha think?? Has anyone else had problems with their Nav.???
The rearview cam has more potential to mess with the navi than the alarm. Usually alarms are wired completely separately, on separate circuits and everything.
The rearview cameras on the other hand require that you tap into the Navi / video feed in the trunk, and it is possible that a wire was tapped back there to make this happen and it's causing all of your problems, they are correct.
If this turns out to be the case then it's definitely not covered under warranty, I'd be more concerned about getting the rearview camera hookups removed before you take it in than the alarm.
Did they use a pre-wired harness like Dom's unit to install the rearview camera hookup..or did they cut/splice/solder connections off of the navi unit in the trunk? If it's the former then you can easily just unplug it for the most part, if it's the latter...well... not only will it not be covered under warranty most likely, it's also likely that it's the cause of your problems.

OK. Let me get this straight. First of all though it sounds like you may be out of luck. You had an aftermarket alarm installed. Nothing wrong with that and I don't see how it would affect the NAV. Then you had the backup camera installed and your not sure if it was a kit ( seperate harness ) or if the original configuration of the system was adapted to make it work. Next is the " two TV's installed in the headrest ". But before that you said " I had the Nav. screen hooked up to it too, to play movies off of it. I also had them disconnect that. ".
Are the " two TV's " and so forth also interfaced with the NAV screen as well?
If all of this is true then you probably are SOL. I don't want to sound harsh here but if you've got a whole lot of discretionary income or assetts, and it sounds as if you might by all this work you had done, then it probably won't hurt much when you have to replace the NAV system.
The other thought I was having when reading all of this was TROLL !!!! Apologies if I'm incorrect.

Also, it’s not like I don’t have the money to replace the Nav screen, it’s just that if I can pull this off I’d rather them replace it under warranty.
They will most likely deny the work under warranty since there were so many modifications done to the vehicle which directly affected - interfaced with, in one way or another, the NAV system. I can understand arguing warranty work on a malfunction if any modifications had nothing to do with the problem in question, i.e., the dealership not covering a faulty transmission because an alarm system was installed. It sounds like they have a strong case for not covering any problem with the NAV system in this particular case though, regardless of whether or not the mods are the cause of the problem.
Sorry to sound so harsh yesterday, I'm not really that critical. Lot's of different factors affecting my mood. I'll give myself a pie in the face for allowing them to bleed over into my participation here.
