Question 05 TL with Nav *going off track*

Hey there. new to the TL world LOVING IT. but today and yesterday i noticed that sometimes my nav screen will show the acura logo on a street I am not on and it will have little "dots" following it a few minutes later though, it corrects itself and is on the right street with the right street name... any idea what the heck thats about?

Yeah, it's happening a little with me. If you live near an area with lots of tree cover that probably explains it. The TLs have an inertia driven gps. So when you're out of satellite reception then the car measures your spot on the map using inertia. Its a neat concept and works great for tunnels and stuff, however it doesn't work great right after the car has been started.

My best advise is to wait til the map shows up on your screen and pinpoints the correct location before you start travelling. Also, the inertia gps gets a little messed up over hills.

I noticed the same problem this weekend. That, along with my XM is fading out. It kinda sucks. I think it's just the trees. Right about now is when they are the fullest and that doesn't help my reception. I know it's the tree because I'm great on highways, its just the side streets and suburbia that gets me. Unfortunately, I'm in suburbia 95% of the time.

That was the confusing part.. i had been driving about 10mns on the highway from work and then when i got off a main side street it started to go haywire. showed me on another street with the little dots behind the acura logo.. then it *caught* up and found me again.

It's probably the inertia thing then. It's good for things like tunnels, but it loses you around turns etc. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I dunno how long you've had your car. But if the problems just started in the past month or two i wouldn't worry about it b/c its probably the trees. My car is new and it worked great in the winter. Now its not very good with the XM reception and I had the same off-track navi that fixes itself.

The dots are "bread crumbs" like in the Hansel & Gretel story, so you can retrace your steps when going on dirt roads, etc., that are not on the maps. The system will lay dots for 150 miles (I think it's in the manual). But also, if any of the roads you're on have had any kind of work done in the past couple of years, such as widening or new ramps, that can throw the system off a bit too.
