'05 TL front door speakers install help

I just started working on my sound system. I did the rear deck already but now I'm working on the front doors. The specs on the forum say they're 6.5 but I have some focals I just bought And they don't fit. Should I return them for some 5.25" focals. I could rip the thing apart and make it fit but I want to know what else I can do.

Polk DB 651s's fit nearly perfectly. They are 6.5". You will need to cut the little white tabs on the door cup thing. Very easy intall.

Get some MDF 3/4' mounting rings that fit the drivers mount them and cut all the clearance you need to and should clear out the door panel a bit too. 7" & 8" will fit if done right.

Yup... make some rings. I have focals too and even my accord needed the rings. You might be able to even do .5" MDF.

If you cannot do it, then something like this:

Yep. Very few of the high end drivers are going to fit with no modification. The TL is already midbass challenged. Going with a smaller driver is a step in the wrong direction.

X3 on the rings and some second skin sound deadner for the door. You're done.

I just installed the front door speakers this weekend. I used the focal grills to create a ring using 3/4 MDF. I removed that white speaker housing in which the stock speaker sits in. One problem I faced was the speaker hole size. If you notice it's not a perfectly round cirlce. With a hammer I tapped around the edges and opened up the hole. Last screwed the rings straight to the door with a sheet of speaker mat in between the door and the ring.

Hopefully today I'm doing the rear speakers. I need to stop by sears and by a right angle drill to make the job easier.

if you have a stubby screwdriver, you only really need that for the rear screw. Or a small right angle one...

Not too complicated...
I used some old hifonics mids with my oem tweets (believe it or not they handle extra wattage well)...they had HUGE magnets so had to dremel out a bigger circle. That AND I made a 3/4" plywood baffle surrounded by sound deadener. Not fun, but not a big deal either.

Came out nicely and sounds much better.

Well hifonics makes really good stuff. People here use it a lot for voice amps. Also there was a fad where people were buying the hifonics colossus amps and powering like 4 18" subs with that.

I installed focal components in the front and had no idea where to find the wiring for the oem tweets so I just kept it there. The focal gives you the option to mount the tweeter on the woofer.

I'll try to use the stubby but I like power tools lol. Before that I have to dynamat my deck. I'm currently having an enclosure made for under the rear deck. It's going to hold 2-10" shallow mount kickers and in the center a JL HD900/5

Well that sounds like a friggin plan...at least you don't lose your trunk.
About hifonics...I also have a Zeus for the mids/highs and a Brutus for the subs. Definitely pound...thought it wasn't high end though cause the crossovers and the tweeters from this particular 6.5" set took a dump on me though...the mid ended up being a champ. I changed to kicker resolutions and these hifonics hit harder and sounded MUCH clearer at high volume. So I kept em!

If it ain't broke...

Just remove that crappy factory mounting bracket and put on an MDF baffle. If it's too small still, trace the inside of the baffle when it's on the door and cut that out. I'm assuming by "voice" speaker you mean an ordinary coaxial speaker....why would you want to do that?
