'05 Navi Problem

Has anyone else had this issue: a few weeks ago, my 2005 TL with navi displayed the screen which shows the Earth from space which shows at startup and would not change.

The next time i started the car, I got a message that it was downloading software and not to shut off the engine. Shortly after, I was prompted for the code. I entered it and it appeared to work correctly for a week or two. Then the same thing happened (picture of Earth from space), then again asking for the code.

Has anyone else seen this? I have not updated DVD since early 2006.

The problem described below has gotten worse. When I start the car, I get a message that it is downloading software and not to shut off the engine. The Navi screen is black most of the time after that. Sometimes I get a request for the code, but I cannot enter anything most of the time and the screen goes black.

I'm not sure if it's the DVD or the Navi unit. I don't want to spend $150 for a new DVD to find its the unit.

Please help!

Go to the trunk and eject the DVD from the Navi unit.
If the DVD is intact, reload it and see if it boots.
If the DVD is scored, it's a bad Navi DVD drive per the TSB. In that case or if the DVD won't boot up, you can check to see if the dealership will goodwill the repair.

Otherwise, you'll need to remove the DVD drive from the trunk and send it with the damaged DVD to Alpine in Torrance, CA for repairs at a cost of about $160.

I just went though this a few months ago. A bad Navi drive. Acura dealer removed the unit and sent it out for repair. It took about a month to get it back.
