I upgraded the navi disc a few months ago. I have been having problems with the navi since. Many time when I start it up, it will stay on the welcome screen and will often tell me that it can't read the disc.

I contacted my local Acura Dealer and they said its the upgrade disc that is the problem. I never had this problem with the old disc that came with the car.

The only way to get it to work sometimes is to shut the car off and re-start, or go into the diagnostic screen and reload the disc from the version file.

Is this a hardware or software issue?

I think the dealer gave you the answer. Since everything worked before using the original software, get another new disc and try again. If it's not working, the disc could be defective and under some type of warranty.

If you get it working properly, please PM me and let me know if it's worth the $$. I've also got a '04TL Navi, and my database is quite old. There has been a lot of new roads built around here since I purchased my car, and the database is outdated.
