'04-Navigation Issue
I'm posting for my friend, who's having issues with the navi in his car. This is what shows up on the nav screen:

He took it to the stealer, and they said they wouldn't look at it unless he paid $300 up front!

Also, periodically, while he's driving around, the navi unit will "reboot".
What is your recommendation? I think he needs to get a new navi drive, but I'd like to get all of your opinions!
TIA!

1) Pop the Navi disc and inspect it for gouges/scratches. if none, clean and reinsert to see if it works.
2) Rather than getting a new Navi drive, a number of members pulled their drive units and sent them to Alpine for repair @ $150 + shipping. There are several threads here with the Alpine shipping address, which is actually somewhere in your neck of the woods in the OC, IIRC.

1)He's swapped discs with another, and it's the same result. It's not the disc.
2)I'll let him know!
Try popping in a drive cleaner or simply blow some air in the drive
But the rebooting sounds like a bad unit. He should do as someone said and get it repaired instead of handing it over to a dealer.

Pull the nav. unit from the trunk and send it to Alpine for $158 round trip. They'll fix whatever is wrong with it no matter the cost and send it back, usually pretty quick too (within a few weeks). Mine is doing the same and keeps getting worse so I'll be pulling mine once I get some free time.

so is the alpine route the only thing to do for this?
mine has been acting up the past few weeks, but i'd rather not spend $158 for something that a warranty "should" cover.
07 tl-s, 100k warranty.
thoughts?

I'm not sure how the warranty works for this type of deal. If you can get it paid for then I'd at least try but I assume it's not a good deal going through the warranty stuff b/c so many people go the Alpine route. You might just search and see what people are doing about that issue...I'm sure someone has had the same question

tl-noob, i've been trying to search...i guess i'll keep looking.
If you're under warranty its a no-brainer, let the dealer deal with it. If you're not under warranty, sounds like the $158 Alpine repair is the way to go (after trying a drive cleaner).
^yes, i just didn't know if this would be covered under the warranty. certain items are not covered, knowing my luck this is probably one of those items. trying to figure out if i'm covered before i waste my time dropping my car off.
