Your thoughts...

Hello all, im currently torn between getting a 07tls and an 05/06 gto, heres the tl im looking at,
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ce=&cardist=39
what do you guys think? looks fishy? great deal?. I could get an 05 gto black/black 11000 miles, for 22,000, in great condition with some mods that i want already on it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go for the TL-S, not just because I own one !.....it's just a great driver with 4 doors and has "SEX APPLEAL", the GTO is just plain "JANE"and not eye catchy!

2 completely different types of vehicles. FWD vs RWD, 4dr vs 2 DR, V-8 vs V-6, 400 HP vs 286HP, 400 ft lb vs 233 ft lbs, torque steer vs no torque steer, 14 sec vs 13 sec 1/4 mile. If you want speed and handling the GTO is the way to go, but if you want refinement, style and fighting the steering wheel a given when under heavy acceleration is what you want, get the Acura.

They are two completely different cars!

The GTO will have tons of aftermarket go fast parts.
The TL will have tons of aftermarket look good parts.

Really it is luxury vs. speed. Which do you want?

Yeah two completely different cars here. If you want to go fast, get the GTO. If you want to get respect everywhere you drive for having such a nice car, get the TL. I love the TL it is the perfect blend of luxury, performance and reliability. Oh and lastly, looks wise TL > GTO

Another thing to think about is your car history. If you've owned some high powered cars in the past, maybe the GTO would be better for you. When I was first thinking Acura, I was actually thinking TSX. I ended up with a TL Type-S because when I was flooring the TSX, the only way I could tell it was actually accellerating was by looking at the speedo!!! I couldn't feel anything at all. TL-S, I can at least feel that the car is accellerating without looking at the speedo.

You're going to get bias opinions since this is an Acura forum. I do like the GTO tho. They look sick slammed and a small drop would achieve that. They don't make the GTO anymore I think so you should be able to get one much cheaper.

thanks for all the post's guys. Well i know its pretty much comparing apples and oranges, i just wish they had the LS2 in the tls than this would be a wrap. I REALLY like the tls but feel it is a bit underpowered, but it makes up for it with such a great interior. The GTO has plenty of power but is also comfy inside, and i kind of like the bland non-racerboy looks, perfect sleeper. Also, the tls would give me a bit better gas mileage. Dang, i really dont know what to do.....

The TL is a midsize entry level luxury. The TL isn't a race car, if you want a fast race car, get the GTO. If you want an enjoyable daily driver, very good looking car, and a decent amount of HP get the type-s. Like others said, its FWD vs RWD.

FWD makes it better in inclement weather conditions. FWD will never be as fast as RWD.

the GTO is nice, but the have stopped production from some problems with the suspension. Thats why they don't make it anymore, so if your gonna jump on one, buy as much as you can now. Chances are they wont make much for it in the future.

They stopped production because no one was buying the car! They only sold 40,745 cars during the 3 years. The wider tire on the US model along with the heavier weight caused tire rub on the front strut, and tying the car down for a month on the ship caused the strut bushing to collapse.

Get the GTO, add a supercharger and heavier suspension components and you'll be good to go
There is a 2006 GTO about 5 miles from my house with 65 miles on the odometer. $22K.

Even if GM will not be around, someone will want to pick up the servicing of the cars and also making money selling "OEM" parts for the cars. The cars in existence will still be supported. You might just be bringing your GM to a Ford dealer for factory maintenance. lol

If you got for a Type-S or a 6 spd it will have a LSD tranny so no worry about the torque steer and it will be a bit faster.

Persnoaly (not just because I have one) I would shoot for a TL 6 spd. It will retain is value longer, hold up better, and be a lot more reliable. Plus it looks a lot better.

One things I have to say about the GTO is modded they sound nasty and are pretty damn fast.

Really depends on what you want. Sedan or 2 Coupe.

The Type-S you posted is clean, since you obviosuly want power shoot for a Type-S 6 spd and get the best of both worlds.

Im really lazy when it comes to shifting, plus, theres always crazy traffic here, shifting back and forth will be a total pain. With the gto's the auto's are faster than the sticks, not like with honda/acura where there is a world of difference. Man i just got in my friends 09RLtech tonight.... its like another world in there. The other reason why im cross-shopping is them is the price difference isnt too much, i doubt ill find another tls with relatively low miles at that price. Its like my mind is saying TLS but my heart is saying GTO, the acura will be more reliable, last longer, and looks better, but the kid in me says GO GTO! w/e somethings gotta give, i need to make a decision soon....

funny you mention maintenance, the GTO im looking at is coming with an extended aftermarket warranty for additional 3yrs/36000. Seems like the car was not ragged out either, spoke with the owner, he's an older guy who lost interest with the car after family member pasted away, still waiting on the TL guy to get back to me. Maybe i should tell the GTO guy 20,000 is the highest i could go. I dont know how to haggle over used car prices...

Speaking of which, i've done a total about face, and im gonna go after the TLS, what do you think are my chances of landing the 07KBP that i listed ealier for 24,000? thats what im going to offer, i hope he bites. If not, looks like its back to square one, or GTO again. Wish me luck.

Get the type-s, if you're going for speed I'd rather get the G8 due to longetivity of the GTO.

If anyone is intrested I can get the guy to contact you about buying one, I think he charges $500 over whatever he picks them up for. Not a bad deal as you can see.
