your opinion please, I am buying a 04-07 TL

Hello All,

I am a 2000 TL and would like to up grade to the 3rd gen. I would like to take your opinions on few things:

1. Have you had any problems with the tranny?
2. Have you had any problems with the engine?

What are the goods and bad about your TL?

please help me to make a decision!!!!

Your opinion will be appreciate

thank you

1. nope no problems - although if you get a MT, you will need to switch out the MTF for a much smoother shifting tranny and a shifter that doesn't fight back when shifting

2. no problems thus far with the engine...13k+ miles, 7 months

None in either case for both of my 3G TLs (my '04 manual and my wife's '05 automatic).

1.) 6MT transmission, no problems with transmission.
2.) No problems with engine

2005 TL with 20K miles

Good things
- Fun to drive
- Sporty performance in a sedan package
- Excellent engine and gearbox
- Great handling
- Typical Honda material and build quality
- Very good ergonomics
- Reasonable mileage ~25MPG
- Great sound system

Bad things
- Rearward view is poor to fair with blockage by large rear pillars (B & C pillars)
- Large turning radius
- Suspension on 6MT is a little stiff (fine for me, but not for my wife and kids)
- The drive by wire throttle and clutch are difficult to master to drive smoothly in the 6MT. Esspecially when trying to accelerate fast from a stop.
- Alot of brake dust on the Brembo brakes on the 6MT (not a problem if you change out the OEM brake pads for aftermarket).

Stay away from the 04. Get the 6sp if you can since acura WAS having issues with 5sp autos. If you can afford new get it.. But if you get a deal on an 05 lease turn in then that might be the way to go. I try to stay away from the model year. Been there twice and well the experiences were what i would say interesting... They were learning about the cars from the customers experiences. Now while I apprciate a service rep's ability to spot trends and issues from experience, I do not want to be the one providing data from driving recently released metal!

Based upon your remarks about the '04, I should add that my '04 manual was built in July, 2004, arrived at the dealer on July 15th, and was purchased by me on July 17th. It still had the plastic on body parts and seats when I picked it out.

With what do you compare this to?

I find the turning radius just as good if not better than my past 3 cars. 03 Maxima, 03 Alitma, 00 Altima. I do find it larger than my wifes CR-V.

My wife's Honda Pilot which has a turning radius of 38 ft. versus the TL of 39.7 ft. The CRV is 34.1 ft, I was curious I checked the vehicle comparison at Edmunds.

I have an 06 auto w/ nav. No issues, except minor rattles that you can easily drown out with the excellent audio system.

Still an 04 though I get you your point about it being manufactured about a year after they initially came out. But the model year is the model year. My 01 CL S had a recall in 04 for an oil jet and well so did many of the 5 Spds built much later.

I feel the 06s had fewer issues overall. Just citing the odds is all...

That's some good information. I didn't know where to look to compare with the cars I listed. I don't see the radius on the TL a problem.

I understand. Except for one problem 7 weeks into the car (dead battery due to a flatlined outside temp display), my '04 manual has been flawless. None of the problems reported by others on this site.
