No, it is not.

I find that on a normal day I have to keep the temp at 68 (full auto mode) which is much colder than I would normally have it set.

And the same thing happens in winter; I need to keep the temp up to 76, 78 on some days to stay warm.

I don't know, maybe I have a bad thermometer.

Mine is cold!

I'm in Florida and have ebony interior...and no tint yet. Middle of day set at 70-ish, morning and evening set around 73-ish. If I've got sun derectly on me I turn it down a little more. (Although during the last week or so I have used the Lo setting a couple times by telling car "Temperature max cold"). When the "AUTO" setting switches off the RECIRC I manually turn RECIRC back on. The fan blows a little harder and it keeps out heat and humidity...and other car smells. I use the Fob to open the windows as I approach the car and drive about a block before I put them up if I've been parked in the hot Florida sun. This blows all the heat out so the car can cool down faster. I also don't turn the fan on high right away...I wait about a minute til the air coming out starts to feel cool...don't like blowing hot dash heat into my face.

If it wasn't for AC the Seminole Indians would have the state all to themselves.

Do a search of my name...you will see my complaints. I think the a/c system is not very good in this car for my type of climate. In fairness...I think it gets so damned hot here sitting in the sun that the a/c just takes forever to cool off the ducting before it can deliver cool air to the cabin. But even with tinted windows and a sun screen, it can take several miles before it starts cooling the car. That's unacceptable to me. But the loaner I had did the same thing...so it's not my car. My Cobra and my wife's Aviator both cool much better when you first get in it. They will start cooling the car in a few blocks...not miles. I'm not sure Acura spends any time doing R & D here. Ford and GM do....among others. That may be the difference. I realize I'm on the extreme end of the climate scale...and 118 in the shade is something very few places have to deal with...but it bothers me the car isn't any better than it is...especially when I have cars that handle this heat well. But once it eventually blows cool air, it does a very good job of cooling the cabin. It's just getting it there.

By the way, if I park the car in the shade or garage, it cools almost immediately. That's why I think the sun load is heating the ducting so hot it can't cool for a while. It gets so friggin' hot in that car you can't believe it...even with tint and a sun shade. I even notice a difference in the temp of the cabin while driving if I turn the windshield into the sun. You guys who don't live in the SW deserts have no idea how hot it can be at times here.

Mine is very cold. I even keep a bottle of water in the bottom of the center console and open up the rear vent to keep my water cold.

Not cold here

In Dallas, it takes 15 min to cool off. I am not impressed with the way the vents blow out. They are angled wrong or something.

Mine is so damn cold that I have to turn it down! (and we here in the L.A. area have been having 115 degree days for the past week)! Best damn a.c. I've ever had in any of my cars (and I've been driving and owning cars since 1946)!

Very cold.
I drove to LA last Saturday afternoon. The outside temp in Santa Barbara on leaving was 85. My son and I were in cool comfort with the AC set at 68 as we watched the outside temperature guage rise once we entered the San Fernando Valey up to 115 and then it went blank with --- so I guess 115 is the max outside temp reading of our guage. My son was even cold at one point and I increased the the AC to 70. I heard it hit 117 in the Valley. I was worried that the sensor was fried but later that evening when we left it was working again and reading 105. No problems on the way home.

I blame it on USER ERROR .

Also, AUTO will not cool your car as quickly. And try leaving the rear vents open to disperse the air better and cool quicker, otherwise you will feel the heat from the rear. And high fan speed can make it worse.

I have had many different Hondas and Acuras in my family since the late '80s and all of them from Civics to Legends have had very good AC. They were all here in Florida and some were even driven across country in the summer through the southwest. They all had black interiors and everything from black to white exteriors. The lighter colored ones did cool quicker, but I've turned the AC down in all of them in the summer after initial cooling.

I have sweat my butt off in many of my friend's Mustangs, Explorers, and BMW's.

I agree a little with friscodave in that sometimes it looks like the vents are aimed one way and blowing another. But it all works fine. I just move them until I feel the air where I want it.

A/C works well on my TL

A/C works very well on my car-- best I've ever experienced, better even than old Ford and Chevy R-12 systems. A couple of weekends ago here in SoCal, my temp gauge flatlined for a minute, then steadied up at 106*F, but my ebony interior cooled down in a minute or two. These past couple of weeks, the A/C has been on "auto" at 71* or 72* (as opposed to A/C off with "fresh air" venting only) since even the SoCal coast has been hot!

The A/C in this car sucks balls. Giant Balls!!! Be lucky you only see 100 degrees once every 10 years. Move out to where I am in AZ, where it's 110+ all summer long.

Yes seems not to be the best...my 06 I have been looking at outside temperature in Jersey has been approx 94 to 96. However, at 68 degrees doesn't seem cold. I might have to bring it for service.

Mine is very cold. Here in Austin, Tx. we have been having HOT weather anywhere from 95-105, eek! Good thing for me is I have the light colored interior, so it only takes like 5 minutes to cool off and at that it goes from 68-71 or 72 to not be so cold.
Mine is great and bought it at 1 yr old.

I have mine set at 72 with minimum fan and it's still very cold. Even during the heat wave we just had, it was really cold. I had to turn it off just to be warm again, but had to turn it back on again because it had gotten hot.

You are right about the difference about parking the car in the shade (but true of any car) I just feel even w/ a sun shade that the dash is a giant heat sink. - That has to be cooled off b4 the a/c can really perform.

Mine works OK but... my wife's 02 MDX is really great. Hers comes right on blowing hard and cold. Mine waits 10-15 seconds before it does anything. She has commented a few times that hers works better. Doesn't help that we have been breaking heat records for the past few weeks. You folks complain about a little heat midday. Try 112-116 during the day and 90+ at midnight. Still, my TL AC is working better than the one in my house.

I will add that I sat in the car parked with AC on for over an hour last week. The temperature gauge did not move even a fraction of an inch upward.

My general opinion is that GM and Ford really do make the best AC's and the German's make the worst.

But it was also parked in the sun all day... So, that could be the reason why it didnt feel like it was working that strong..

Bingo! It was 121 in the East Valley the other day.

No flame intended...but you can't begin to compare Florida to SW Arizona. Your humidity can be a lot higher (but during Monsoon season, it's high here too...83% this morning) But humidity has little effect on the cooling ability compared to sun load. That's why there are sun load sensors in the car and not humidity sensors.

Could you explain your comment about user error? I've tried several different ways to run the a/c and none of them are noticably different than another. If I'm missing something, I'd like to know. However, since there is another Arizona resident here with the same problems I'm having, it's a safe bet it's a quirk of the car. Oh yea...my wife has an Aviator....and it's twice the a/c system this one is when it comes to how fast it cools. Once the TL is down to temp...it's as good as any.

Yes, based on my past ownership and that of friends over the years. Understand that it gets a lot hotter here than there and most other places. Also, all of my experience is with a number of VW's and Audis. My first Audi was a 5000 that had a Ford sourced unit that worked really well. All of the rest had a really hard time keeping the cars cool and contributed to engine cooling problems as well in extreme 100°+ weather.

A very good service writer at the local dealer explained that it does not get very hot in Germany. This after I purchased a new $1000 compressor that was not very satisfying.

It's not quite 100+ deg, but WeatherUnderground shows that it's 99.5 deg in Saarbreuken, Germany today. But that's with a very low 17% humidity (which is key.)

Chapter 21, page 92 of the TL Service Manual has an excellent chart. The chart explains the expected performance of the TL's A/C system under a variety of temperatures and humidity.

To sum it up at the high-end of the temperature scale...

If the outside temeprature is 104 deg with 30% humidity, the A/C should be pushing out about 58 deg air.

If the outside temperature is 104 deg with 80% humidity, then the A/C should be pushing out about 85 deg air.

No flames taken....the "user error" comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek. However, I do drive with many people who just don't understand how to quickly cool their cars.

You and others are right that the black "rubber" dash is a heat sink. Probably the biggest problem to overcome. I would guess that the aviator has a lighter dash and both front and rear A/C, and your Cobra has a smaller cabin.

I understand I can't compare my 95 F w/high humidity to your 115 F w/ low humidity....but both suck. Being surrounded by water helps modulate the temp. but causes the brutal humidity. Two years ago I stopped in the middle of Death Valley and it was 120 F in the shade at 6:00 pm.....I thought I was going to burst into flames. Saw guys "secretly" testing the then soon to be new M6 and S Class, and GM guys said they cooked their car (G6) the day before, then tried to take it back that they said anything....oops.

The Cobra is indeed a smaller cabin...and the Aviator does have both front and rear air...but we don't use the rear air much other than to initially cool the cabin. It just degrades the performance of the front air so much around town you can't believe it. Shut it off...and the front is back to par. But my Acura cools very well even in the extreme heat once it starts cooling. It just takes forever to get it cooling! I think you have hit the nail right on the head with the dash being a heat sink. Once the ducting cools down, I'm very pleased with it's performance.

Yea...you gotta love those 120 degree days! I don't care if it's dry or humid...it's like being in an oven. It really is. You wonder where you're next breath is coming from. I often wonder how a car can even run! I believe all of the big 3 have proving grounds here. They also like it here because it's a 2 hour trip to Flagstaff where you go from 1000 feet to about 8000 feet....with many steep climbs while still in the desert heat. It's a good test. It's not unusual to see a taped up car on the highway.

But I'll take my heat to your humidity any day. My family is from Alabama and I've spent a ton of time in the Souteast, Kansas City, and St. Louis. No thanks!! That is the most uncomfortable I've ever been. I don't know how you stand it. We do have Monsoon season going on right now which dramatically increases our humidity. People think AZ is always a dry heat...not true this time of year. It can be miserable...but nowhere near as bad as you have it.

I would have loved to hear the GM boys. Now that's funny!

^ Same here, your right.
Point of clarification; mine works well also after it gets going. It's like, "Please sir, may I have some more (air conditioning, not heat)!

It's been in the mid-high 90s for weeks here...I simply open the windows with the fob when approaching the car, put in on "Lo" when driving off, and have to turn it down because I'm feezing about 5 minutes after.
