I drove home with the fuel door open and the fuel cap attached to it. In 18 years of driving I finally did it and I always make fun of people that do this. How embarrassing. Didn't get a "check fuel cap" warning either.

Great. I did have my fuel cap attached today, and I still had the car tell me to close it!!!
Been in "Problems and Fixes" section this evening.
Hey, at least you didn't have the hose still attached to the car. Dragging that thing home in the fuel neck is complete hall of shame material......

I had that message too, about 5,000 miles ago. It went off on it's own and never came back. Looks like it's usually the gas car, filler neck, or a purge solenoid with the solenoid being the most common.

I literally saw an old lady driving down the street with the nozzle and about 6' of hose dragging behind her. I couldn't get my phone out in time to take a picture but it was hilarious. If I ever do that I'll turn my license in. Hopefully I'll have another 18 years.

I drove about 50 feet with the door open and cap off didn't get a message. Didn't know there was one.

HAHA.. I am embarrassed to admit my FAIL! I pulled an old lady move & drug that nosle & hose clear accross the whole dang gas station after filling up. To top it off we were out cruising in my younger days, and all the girls were rolling.... Not with me, at me...

Last year I drove to my usual gas shell, paid the cashier $40, then got into my car and drove down the street. After a couple seconds I had realized my idiot mistake of paying without pumping -__-

Yeah, look at it this way. You know you're brave when you report this on a major website.

Morons!

You guys are all Morons!

I would NEVER do anything like that!

But if I did, I would NEVER admit it on here!

I would just lie and say it NEVER happened to me.

IHC, did you notice when you got home or did someone in another car tell you while you were driving?

^that's the worst...

other car : "hey bud!" (gesturing/pointing and looking back at the rear of your car while driving 40mph next to you)

you : (put your windows down) "what???"

other car : "your gas door is open!"

you : "oh...thanks man!"

nothing quite as embarrasing as that.

yeah, it happened to me. so what?

probably has to run the EVAP monitor, and especially considering how far you drove home, it may have never had time to actually run

btw the best is when you are with somebody else, and it's one of the string attached ones, and you ask them if it is on, because you can hear it swinging around and making a rattling sound

You know your getting old when the chick beside you in a dropped TL is wearing a crop top and you admire the cleared headlights on the car.

Kinda might make you think how a diabetic feels in a candy store.

I noticed when I got home, luckily it was a short drive. I hung the cap in the door so I could hear anything. Surprisingly I didn't notice it in the side mirrors but I guess I made no left turns and no left lane changes. The rear quarters are heavily sound deadened so I probably wouldn't have heard it anyway.

Yesterday was weird anyway. I went into the station while the car was filling and bought a couple things. After paying I nearly walked out of the store and left my stuff on the counter. Then I realized I left my phone on the counter and finally I couldn't find my wallet in my pocket and eventually found it on the passenger seat. I guess my mind was somewhere else or it's the 17 days straight working.

But IHC didn't you forget the oil plug too once after a oil change lol!!

It sucks getting old but hey we wouldn't be able to say "hey remember that time...." over a beer with friends!

Were you driving a white current-gen M3 northbound on Lincoln Blvd. in Marina del Rey a couple of weekends ago?
If so, I was the guy pointing that out to you.
Yes, I note that your user location is MD, and you probably aren't a heavy-set white guy in his 40s.

Oh, and driving along with the gas door open isn't a function of age, as I haven't done it yet.

Chip off the Old Block

You know you're getting old when a young construction worker in a van passes you on the right going around a left hand turn and yells, "Move it out of the way, you Old Fart!"

I looked all around to see what old fart he was talking about but there was no one else there but me.

When I got home, devastated, I called my dad and told him I was bummed out because apparently I was an official "Old Fart."

He told me not to worry; it could be a lot worse.

"What could be worse?" I asked.

He said, "You could have a son who's an Old Fart."

Did it on my way to work after only 2 hours of sleep within 48 hours. I didn't notice it until I got on the interstate, looked down to see where the $20 pointed the needle, and saw I had less gas than when I stopped. Still took me 5 seconds after that to realize I never initiated the "fill-up" process. It's like I thought back to the last time I was at the pump and implanted that memory instead.

Lol. I've been there before. I worked 16hrs a day and got a grand total of 3 hrs sleep over 3 days when I was younger working at Enron. I literally forgot my way home and forgot how to shift the 5spd manual. All of a sudden the streets I've driven on my whole life looked unfamiliar. I was trying to shift into the next gear but it wouldn't go. I had been driving this car for 6 months and forgot how to shift. I finally remembered to push the clutch in lol. Pretty scary.

What do I win?

Edit: I did not see the earlier picture and that is not me - I returned their hose before leaving the station.
