Reasoning? You can always go back to stock without having to repaint. Vinyl is just as good as paint, and if you change your mind, all you have to do is peel it off.

Looks like a pretty even response.
I think the black roof looks great with WDP. I like the idea of vinyl not being permanent, too. They can be a bit expensive at $80 or so, but I think that is a fair investment to at least try it out to see if you feel it. One other note about vinyl---I don't think you can cover the satellite antenna easily. Its a lot cheaper to have to paint just the antenna, though!

When I first heard vinyl, all I pictured was a 70's lincoln continental.

Would vinyl hold up on the roof especially the leading edge?

Paint :thumbsdow

Example here with 3M vinyl

If you paint it and end up not liking it, it will be very hard to match WDP

Where did you get the vinyl? How much did it cost? Does it come off easy? Will it damage the paint when coming off?

No.

Reason. When the time comes for selling it or trading it in, you will have reduced your buying audience. If this is not a concern for you, go for it. It's your car.

Put on the overlay if you hate it just peel it the fuck off.

WHERE TO GET OVERLAY + INSTALLED:
Applied Film Technologies
725 Fairfield Ave (rear garage)
Kenilworth, NJ 07033
cell: 973.477.6717

ALSO he's going to ask you to remove the roof xm antenna which is very simple. Here is a link on how to do it.

Sigh, please do a search these questions have been beaten to death already.

You can buy a roll off of stickcity.com
It will cost about 50 bucks
You can do it yourself
It takes time to put on and take off
It will not damage anything.

There are lots of tint places that offer roof overlays
ebay offers a bunch of overlay sheets

If you want in full details search, I have a huge thread about the overlay and sizes needed to a DIY link.

Vinyl VS Paint 101:

If anything happens to vinyl you can always take it off.
(Scratches, rips, fading, swirls ect)

Before selling car you can remove vinyl.

With paint.. Cost's more to get it done correct the 1st time.
Any swirl marks, chips, fading in most cases will result in repainting the roof.
If you sell the car and the next potential buyers hate the look your SOL.

Taking care of vinyl:

Now you would want to use any "High gloss" wax for instance I use this
Meguiars Professional series high gloss number 26
http://meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+YELLOW+16

And finish it with a sealer which is:
And use Colinite 845 WAX/SEALER to give it a very wet look and keep it sealed. 1x a month if your busy but 2x a month would be better.

Another member here uses:
Vanilla moose glaze and in which he added:

"Yes .. Glazes usually have a bit of cleaners in them and do a lot of filling of very minor imperfections like hazing .. In the case of the vinyl roof you apply it inthe shade and remove it with a very soft M/F towel."

Exceldetail one of the sponsors in the detail forum here carrys the line.

How to install vinyl:

Here is a DIY
http://auto.badtziscool.com/how-tos/...-roof-overlay/

Important to clean the roof off and keep it wet as you go to install the overlay. A credit card with smooth edges and an X-acto knife you can pick those up at ACMOORE stores

www.acmoore.com
find a store near you.

I would suggest a helper, and remember vinyl is paper thin.

Ok where to buy?

Ordering Vinyl overlay:
www.stickercity.com

From sticker city the size of sticker needed:
"BTW I measured our roofs i got 3'8.5" X 4'8"
I got the 48x72 (4x6) roll since i measured our roofs to be basically 4x5.

If you live near Jersey and don't want to attempt this contact my friend:

Applied Film Technologies
725 Fairfield Ave (rear garage)
Kenilworth, NJ 07033
cell: 973.477.6717

OR google a shop near you that deals with tints and overlays.

To remove your XM Antenna
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=709444

MY orig. thread on overlay with lots of questions and answers
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/wdp-reppin-black-roofs-643074/

And last but not least the results with using correct waxes the overlay looks like paint
My detailing thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/zano-paint-cleaner-swirl-removal-1z-einszett-polish-colinite-845-wax-sealer-%3D-sex-719328/

Can someone add this plus my other threads to the garage these questions are always being asked..

For the XM antenna you could just buy a black one from Acura and replace it to match the vinyl. Save your white one if you take off the vinyl later.
