Ok I recently went to my dealer to have my recall fixed. Anyway, before I went to pick up my car they called me and said my car was due for fuel injection cleaning. I asked how much and she said it was $245.00. I said I would think about it. So what do you guys or dolls think? Is it something I need done to my car at that price or is it something I can do myself. When they say clean my injectors do they actually take it apart to clean it or they just put some additives in my gas tank to clean my injector while I drive. Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
if my memory serves me correctly, i BELIEVE acura of lynnwood told me that they use some sort of additive. but i could be wrong, $245 seems even high for the dealership for simply pouring in a stupid bottle of whatever into your gas tank. i skipped the fuel injectors cleaning - used seafoam instead lol

This services costs around 60-100 bux anywhere else... It's a canister which is connected to the fuel line, and while the car is running for about 15 minutes it "cleans" the system...
They are trying to make some $$$ on you.

Unless you have been using off-brand or poor quality fuel, or fill up at old stations that maybe have old tanks in the ground (or a station that doesn't move much product), you shouldn't need this with an '05 TL.
Use a quality gasoline and every other oil change, or every 10,000 miles, put a bottle of Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner in your tank then drive mostly in town until the low fuel light comes on before filling your tank again.
If, on the other hand, your engine is in need of this service, get it done at a reputable shop.

Your car is way too new to have any problems with the injectors. Did they say there was a problem like long term fuel trim being off or did they try and make it sound like this is a normal "scheduled maintenance" item. I would absolutely not consider doing this.
Use a cleaner occasionally. You don't want to run fuel system cleaner too often either. Some are harsh on fuel system compontents and some will actually show up in a used oil analysis which you don't want. Do it once or twice a year and run good name brand gas and you will probably never need the fuel injection cleaning for the life of the car.

No. I''m sure your injectors would be cleaner afterwords but certainly not $245 cleaner. FI cleaning is sometimes necessary but the type they are suggesting is well beyond preventative maintenance. Certainly if your car is running well then there is nothing "due" like what they suggest
Dealers are businesses with sales targets like any other business. Since so many folks will do whatever it takes "for their baby" they'll always get takers. Not all are like this. I just saw my dealer for the first time in 25Kmi for the recalls. They didn't try and sell me a thing. They even talked me out of something I was thinking of doing (road force balancing tires).
