xm radio "boombox" available?

i've been having a hard time finding info on this -
i know aftermarket xm radio gives you the option of purchasing a radio (they call it a boombox i think) that you can listen to outside of your car. is this available with the xm that comes with out car? thanks in advance...

You would need to purchase a separate account as it is a separate tuner. With the family plan and if you pay in advance you can get the price down to around $7 per month for the second tuner. The tuner costs around $100 and the boombox is a separate $100 charge.

You can find this box at Best Buy or Crutchfield or just about any dealer that sells the XM radio Delphi gear. I personally have two accounts. With the Delphi tuner you can move it around. I have a wired base in both my office and home as well as the boombox. So with this one tuner, I take it home each night to listen at home and then back to work in the morning. I put it in the boombox while I am outside.

This way XM radio is never out of my reach. I have been a fan of XM for a long time and having it pre-installed on my TL is like a dream come true.

that's pretty bunk. so you pay about $17 per month as opposed to just the 9.99 to get it in the acura?

Yeah, unfortunately. I wish there was some way for them to have one account feed everything, but if you could have extra equipment for free on one account, I can't think of any way to stop you from giving it to your friends to use for free. They track it by the tuner. Like on DirecTV you pay $5 extra per room but when the tuner can get service anywhere, then it gets hard to control. I like XM enough to pay for two accounts, but I'm not happy about it.

I should add, if cost is an issue, I pre-paid for 2 years on both accounts and I pay $8.29 per month for my primary account and and $6.99 per month for the second account in the TL or $15.28 total for the two accounts. You can pre-pay for longer times and get the total down to $14.47 per month for the two accounts, and you can cancel at any time. So $17 can be brought down a little with a pre-pay like you do with a magazine subscription.

Prepay is the way to go... write one check and be done with it for a couple years. You'll forget about the pain of writing the check after a couple months.
