WTH?! 200HP>270HP?!
I went to test drive the new A3 2.0T (DSG) this afternoon,
I'll say: wow, that thing is damn sick!!!When u r steping on gas, it pushes so hard!
and U can hear a big "bang" from back when u shift the gears!
That is totally a wild animal! and I never drove any cars as smooth as A3...
I feels like it is even faster than my 270hp TL Auto! seriously!
(This feeling appeared when I sat back inside my TL after the test drive...)
why?
Well, maybe because it got turbo engine with DSG and less weight~
It is a really fun toy to drive!
I love my TL too, and just wanna share the exciting experience with u guys,
I haven't cool down till now!

I am not sure but I think that a G3 TL AT gets approx. 200-210 HP at wheels.
There are claims that new generation of A4 and A3 for that matter (they share the same 2.0T engine) get approx. 190 HP at wheels.
The "hard pull" feeling you've got is mostly because of 207 lb of torque at 1800rpm.
A3 feels very fast indeed however don't forget that it's a lighter car.

I'm not sure why 270<200... maybe A3 is smaller??
DSG could be the factor. While you test-drive SMG-II on BMW, you will wonder why this car is so much powerful and faster than BMW auto.

I saw something on car and driver about the DSG, it is supposed to be great. It uses clutches in place of torque converters(I think), and if thats the case that would definatly leed to better acceleration. Although some LU Torque converters come pretty close.
How does the TL do in high end accelaration IE 75-100, and 100-130, especially when keeping VTec engaged.

....I may be off here but my RSX-S felt faster than my TL....but it wasn't...it just felt faster...
, the TL IMHO is bigger quieter and I have to do a speedometer check so I don't get a speeding ticket....because I can't feel how fast I'm going.....

It could definatly feel faster and not be faster. Some factors could be noise, road height, size of the car. When you are in a jet does it feel like you are accelerating to 600 MPH really fast?

The A3 =
The interior was HORRIBLE. It did feel peppy though, and that is probably the combination of it being a lighter car, and the torquy nature of the motor.
The legacy gt has a faster 1/4 mile than the tl, so that may account for the faster feel.

A3 is a great car but will fail horribly here, where we think bigger is better.
And many cars can "feel" fast and be slower than other cars. Take driving a Benz, so isolated, it never feels fast with the V-8 or even AMG cars but next thing you know your doing 100mph.
Some cars feel very fast, a Nissan 3.5 Altima is one, its so cheaply built, you feel that engine pull all of the damn car, not to mention the torque steer.
