Wtf just happened to my car!!!!!

I was cruising down the street at 35 MPH when my TL's acceleration went from around 2500 RPM to 6-7000 RPM but didnt not accelerate. Sorta felt like pressing the accelerator while in nuetral. Pulled over to the side and turned the car off. When i started it the next time it moved in drive for a lil until the RPM went over 3000 and then it would do the whole no gear/neutral thing. Also when shifting it back from "D" to "P" i hear a BIG "clunk" sound. Can someone give me so input in what it might be? What can be done? I do have the warranty, so how can i go about this to the dealer and what to expect. Thanks in advance and will be actively replying back.

Just to let you know the hard clunking in the gear changing is natural in the TL. Kind of :ghey: if you ask me

no it was more of a struggling clunk. Its hard to put it in any gear no without doing it fast and hard. and still its a hugr clunk, i already know baout the ormal clunk in the TL but this was more than the average clunk.

Go get your transmission checked out. These things are not normal, don't listen to the above.

Have you checked for leaks and checked checked the transmission fluid level? What you are describing sounds like slipping to me. Have you noticed any strong smells or smoke?

call the dealer and ask them to send a flatbed tow truck for you

What you experienced -beside trans failure- was the engine protective rpm limiter- its called Limp Mode- if the car thought the engine was overrevved because the trans was slipping- it would go into limp mode

I have to agree with the failed transmission hypothesis... Go get it checked out at the dealer.

I also think its your Tranny...thats sucks, didnt expect to hear about a tranny going out at 39k miles on an 06....have your car towed to the dealer and they should take care of you! Good thing this happened to you at 39k miles and not 12k miles later when you would have been at 51k!! Yikes!!

It could be a busted axle. That would explain the noise when putting it in park after revving it in drive. Everything inside is turning in D, then you put it in park and it's the same as if you threw it in park with the car still moving.

I'm not sure what the parking pawl reacts off of in the TL, but my guess is something from the diff down failed.

Does the speedo move when you rev it in D even though the car isn't moving?

it might be your throttle body, you might have to replace it. Or the pedal sensor.

It is the tranny. That's the same thing that happened on my 02 TLS. The gear will slip after you go over 3k rpm. Take it to the dealer, sucks that it is an 06.

Sounds like it could be the transmission slipping, but other possiblities can be:
Faulty APP sensor, which would cause the car to rev to 6K
-Then with this as you put it into drive, the motor is spinning faster than normal which could produce the grinding sound as it engages rather than the usual click
- As you drive the APP sensor fails at 3k and think you let go of the gas and lets the car coast.

though this is far fetched, it could always be a possibility.

Call acura roadside and have them tow it to the dealer.

Careful now last time I said that the OP got their panties in a bunch and I got a stern warning from the mods that I may be banned because someone took it too seriously. But I am sure it had much more to do with people flexing their online muscles.

Tranny...is it a Type S w/ manual? it could also be a bad clutch.

A few yrs ago, my '97 Camaro SS clutch went out over a period of a wk, kept going to higher and higher revs to get the same acceleration...ended up on the Bay Bridge going 40 mph at 5k rpms praying my car wouldnt overheat or whatnot until i got it to the service shop. That was not a cheap repair.

The OP made references to "D" and "P," so it's an automatic.

Tranny is fuxored. Call the dealer and have them send the hook. It should be under warranty from the info you provided.

You're entitled to a decent loaner while they work on it. Figure a week.

the dealer called me back and told me its an internal problem in the tranny. they will order a brand new tranny on monday and have it done by wednesday i hope. Dealer was making a big deal about my mods but then got through his thick ass hard headed skull and finally made him replace it for free under warranty. Will keep you updated...
