The TSX is not a high powered vehicle, but then again, this thread isn't about the TSX. I'd still let him drive the TL, as well.

Just remember all those along the Gulf Coast who couldn't evacuate because the had no means to leave.
Not every teenager on here had their parents pay for their car.

I dont think I would let my daughter drive the TL. Not because of the value or anything, I just dont think she would be really good at a 6MT and surely dont want her to learn in this car. Id let her drive my wifes jeep for sure.

Yes I would - in a heartbeat. I was racing cars when I was 17.

Dude this thing is a $35,000 gussied-up Accord with more electronic nanny features and airbags than any car I've ever owned. It's not an exotic or even an expensive luxury car at that. It's a Honda.

I would argue that age has something - but not everything - to do with driving capability. There are a lot of people in Atlanta (and elsewhere) that drive while talking on their phone or "pimpin" their ride. That makes me sick - and concerned.

If a 17 year old went to Skip Barber, Panoz or similar school, they would have more respect (and therefore in my opinion be more careful and observant) drivers than people twice their age.

A perfect car for the teenager would be RSX or VW GTI or Civic Si. TL and TSX are higher class IMO

i think that if someone my age is a reckless driver, he or she is going to do equal harm whether they drive a TL or Corolla, its just going to take them a bit longer to get to higher speeds

I guess there are two issues here.

1. How much do you love your kids?

I guess it comes down to developing a certain comfort level with your kids. By "kids" I mean, in my case, someone who is just about to get their driver's license (in October). I would rather ride with him to try to teach him some good driving habits. I figure a stupid driver is a stupid driver, regardless of their age. I have seen a lot of stupid older drivers out there and I figure they just started as stupid teenage drivers. You start with bad habits and they just go with you for the rest of your life. So, just giving him the keys to my TL is not a smart move until I feel he can be responsible with it. As my son drives more and more I would feel better about giving him the keys to the TL, maybe.

2. How much do you love your car?

Do you baby your car? Do you wash it once a week whether it's going to rain or not. Do you worry about it everyday? Alway thinking about what esle to buy for it? Are you obsessed about your TL? Yes I am or I won’t be hanging around this forum. It is a great car. Your right it just a Honda Accord. but with more style and personality. I call it an Accord on steroids. More looks and more muscle. Yea, I love my car. It’s worth every penny I earned to buy it. Its fun to drive and I don't want someone careless screwing around with it, wife or son. If it gets wrecked I would rather be the one doing it. Then I have no one to blame but myself.

Keep ON topic and OFF personal attacks.

Don't give us more work to do. We already have enough.

Thanks.

I agree, but you can get that for under 15,000... Correct me if I'm wrong but leather, sound system, looks, etc... are not as important as safety

Everybody has different standard but I think the TSX is also a great car. If in 4 or 5 years when my 05 TL is ready to trade in, the TSX is looking even better and the TL stays the same or changes for the worse, I'd consider a TSX. I drove both and loved both really. The TL's interior really got me though with the sweeping dash and curves.

Anyway back on topic.. the TSX is seen as more of a young person's car. The dealer frowned at me choosing a TL over a TSX at my age... because he wanted the TL for himself and he was 48... LOL. He told me the TL was for someone more "stated" which I might have taken offense to if I wasn't wearing a t shirt and sneakers at the time of purchase.

Yes you can get strong safety scores for less money than a TSX. But for good kids, with good grades, I have no problem getting the TSX.

My 15 soon to be 16 year old sister is being suprised soon with an 06' TL auto with navi. While I think this is a little over the top, I guess to each his own.
