Would a Major Gas Price Increase Affect Your Driving?

Since it seems that gas might be going up as much as $0.25 a gallon, just wondering if it will affect your driving habits...

Paying around $2.03/gallon here in Dallas for super unleaded...

can't remember off the top of my head how high it got last year though...

Well, 25 cents more a gallon is roughly $3 more per gas tank, not really a huge deal IMO. I'm already paying 2.49

I live in the Mid-Cities area and work in Las Colinas. I've been paying $1.92 a gallon for preimum at my favorite Texaco station. I spoke with the store owner on Friday morning and he said there's no way he'd raise his prices by $0.25 a gallon right off the bat. So, I've got that going for me.

gas for me in upland,ca is 2.43. Gas is gas if you need it then you buy it. People should stop complaing. Shouldnt have bought a ACURA TL that needs 91 gas maybe you should have bought a Toyota Corolla

Don't see anyone complaining here...please point out this 'complaining' if I overlooked something...

maybe people shouldn't be so antagonistic...

Wink Not me...

I have spent a total of $232 for gas since I have owned the TL. It was delivered with a full tank of gas. I have had the car for a year next month.

This cost is by far cheaper than my water & sewer bill. It is cheaper than my electic and telephone and cable bills.

When gas is cheaper than water, how can I bitch? And, I'm talking tap water. I don't buy Evian (which is naive spelled backwards).

If the yearly cost went up to $275 a year..... big whoop. It's still the best bargain going.

The oil companies love the results of these polls.

I'd pay $35 a gallon if I had to.

Gasoline is only 15 cents a gallon in Venezuela..

The US is about in the middle of gas prices in the world.

I pay about $2.05 gal for premium.
That hasn't really affected the amount I drive the TL. Shockingly, I still like driving my Integra more than anything. People think I'm crazy for having an NSX and TL sitting in garage but still prefering to drive what I do.

Yep. The high compression ratio is what requires the high octane fuel. If you use the 87 with every 3rd or 4th fill-up, you probably won't have any noticable issues other than a slight performance loss. However, if you use it more frequently, you'll probably hear the valves knocking and your gas mileage will decrease.

Like you said, if you're willing to buy a car that requires premium gas, you should use it.

There has been studies, and even informal ones done here. That show if you run 87 octane you gain nothing, because your fuel economy decreases enough that you actually end up spending the same at the pump.

What do you define as major??

$.25/gal isn't that big a deal.

If it was a $1.00 or more/gal jump then, yes, that would affect my driving habits.

Sales of big or thirsty vehicles would tank overnight and a few car companies would be in deep manure.

I would not change how I drive it might change how often I drive. I go through about 15 gallons of gas a week now as it is. 30 bucks roughly. If I was to pay 4 bucks more it would not change how I drive. Maybe that 50 mile round trip visit to see a friend to play pool would not be once a week any more.

I already cut out my daily large dunkin doughnuts coffee which was 2 bucks. There is 10 bucks a week! LOL. Daily work commute is 25 miles. So 5-6 gallons a week for work and the rest 9-10 gallons is related to going out and doing things.

I spent $2.27 a gallon for 93 octane at my local BP here in the eastern burbs of Cleveland. It's one of the cheaper stations around here, too.

In my job, I have no choice but to drive to work. I can't take the bus to the hospital for someone with an emergency stroke, LOL!

Hwy where in the Mid Cities are you at? I'm here at Euless.

You don't by any chance gas up at the Texaco over there at Westpark Way, near the Chevron and Fina? If so, compared to everywhere else, this Texaco has a good price on premium.

I live in south Euless off of Trinity Blvd. and work in Las Colinas off of 114 and O'Conner. To avoid the 183 "parking lot" I take Northgate Dr. (via Rental Car Dr in DFW airport) through Irving. I fill up at the Texaco on the corner of Northgate and Story.

When I passed that station this morning, preium was up to $2.00 a gallon. That's about $0.09 cheaper than all others on that route.

My wife still has to drive to work in our minivan, so even a $1 spike in gas prices wouldnt change much given our lifestyle. (I travel by commuter rail every day so I wouldnt see any change in fares for a while after any major increase in fuel costs.)

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to meet up one afternoon.

I live in Valley Ranch and work in Las Colinas as well. The 2 Chevrons near me are at 2.19 for premium starting today. The Shell I go to right by my apartment is still at 2.09. I am pretty they will be raising the price soon as well.

Not everything, but the cost of living is a little high over here. I wouldn't trade it though. I like living in the area. There is pretty much everything here and a few bars that I frequent. Good to get to know the people that work in the bars and get a hook up every so often.

I go to Rocky's all the time. Usually on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday night. I like just sitting with a beer and playing the NTN games.

Yea it is. Maybe we just need to do our next Dallas meet there. We will just take over the whole place. What sux though is that the owner Rocky got rid of all the pool tables. Found out that all the regulars were playing for free. They would never charge us and so he wasn't making any money.
