Worth getting fixed?

So I took my car into merchants tire to have my tires installed, and I come back to see a door ding on my car. I know it wasn't there before because its on the driver side and its maybe a 3cm dent and the paint is chipped, but it looks really bad when its in direct sunlight becuase it just ruins the flow or everything. The service manager was really cool about it and told me to get an estimate and they'll write a check, but if I took this into a repair shop or something, do you think it would devaluate the car? I don't know jack **** shit about this stuff, sorry! Sounds like a noobish question but I don't really want anything on the cars record that would lower its value when I do decide to sell it.

well...i would definitely take the check, if you decide to fix it is your choice..

it wont go on the cars "record" becasue there is no police report/accident

but if the body shop has to repaint the door, a dealer will know the door is repainted when you go to trade it in....

If it's not that bad, I would keep the check. Also, Like blackura said, if there is no police report, then it shouldnt be on the record

Aren't you guys assumng that the check will be made out to John? I think it should be, but that doesn't mean it will. They may make it out to the place he is getting it fixed at. Shit happens...either way, no police report so don't worry about an record JJ.

I would get it fixed. It would annoy me until I push enough to fix it.

A good shop will make it undetectable .. a cheap shop won't .. I had 70% of my black passat painted and no one could tell. I repeat .. no one.

If it is where I am thinking it is at, same thing happended to me some asshat mom in a huge excursion put a nice size dent in my door. I bought a plan with my car that covers dents, dings, curbed wheels, and cracked windshields. They took it to a local dent/ding place and they popped it straight out and put some touch up paint on it and then buffed it you can't even tell it was there. I am suprised you are calm lol I know how you are about your car like I am. I would take it to the best place around there and have them give you the biggest estimate for it and have them fix it. Take it somewhere where you know it will get done right, and not half assed. That sucks dude things like that just ruin your day. But get it fixed right, shouldn't affect anything you decide to do with the car later. Hitt me up on aim if you have questions dude.

i would say take the check and go to a repair shop to get the entire door redone. my car was keyed about a month ago, and there was a dent and paint was chipped off, and the insurance wanted 56bucks added on to the deductable to get it fixed with the door getting repainted. so, went to my own body shop and they fixed the ding and repainted the entire door. so use the check and get the entire door repainted.

Get it fixed. Not going to cost you anything so why drive around with a dented door?

Even if you don't get the dent fixed, I'd definitely get the chip touched-up/fixed. You don't want it to start rusting underneath.....

If it bothers you, I suggest you get it fixed. Its only going to annoy you more as time passes. Especially after every wash. Besides, you're not paying.

It is very likley that they will write the check to the repair shop where you get the estimate from. I once had a vallet return me my car and parked the right front rim on the curb. Radley Acura gave me an estimate for a new rim to the tune of over $300+. When I got the check it was made out to Radley Acura I opted to get the Rim Renifinished such that I could get a $150- Service credit which they told me that I could do. When I picked up the Car they told me that I couldn't pay with that check. They ended returning the ballance to the Vallet service. When they renifinished my rim, they left grey paint all over my Brembo Break Calipar. I guess that repair shops go through this pratice to prevent fraud. You could always be honest with the guys that screwed up your car. Ask them if they intend to write the check out to you in your name. Tell them that you are concerned that performing this repair will devalue the car more than the damage is worth.
