Wood steering wheel?

wood steering wheel
I used to think this was a very sharp look . . . until I did my test drive
of the Lexus ES330. Without even getting into what I thought about
the drive, I found it very annoying when my hands switched from the
leather to the wood as I was driving.
IMO, I would recommend anybody considering this to drive a car
like the Lexus before hand.

Wood Wheel
Ever driven a car with a wood steering wheel? The wood is slippery, and the tighter you hold it, the more your hands sweat, and it gets slipperier, so you hold it tighter and . . . . .
I was driving my friend's Alfa Romeo with a wood wheel and thought I was going to crash it for sure. I was a nervous wreck and my hands ached when I got home.
Wood is GREAT -but NOT for a steering wheel.

Personally, the wood takes away from the sporty image of our cars. Lexus seems to be leading the trend in this area. I think wood is OK on the interior trim but will draw the line on the steering wheel. To me it is bad both asthetically and functionally as mentioned in the above posts.

i got a black on black tl with the wood package, wood shift knob and wood steering wheel... the steering wheel really sets off the rest of the wood IMHO
dsc888 say's the wood takes away from the sporty image of the car... well umm i guess if u have the wood trim then wouldnt this be no different? also its a "sports sedan" its not a true sports car, so i think the luxury inside with the sporty look on the outside is great... only my 2 cents so no offense
BUT each to their own

I had the wood steering wheel in my 03 TLS-Navi and loved the look and feel.
Better yet, I also had it in my SLK-320 6MT and it was awesome. The wheel in the MB had a small piece of solid wood at the bottom middle of the wheel and the rest was leather on the outside (top) and wood on the bottom. Hard to explain, but if you wrapped your hand on the wheel at 12:00, your palm would feel leather and fingertips wood.

Freak what ever people are saying. That setup is sick and I envy you! The wood trim makes your TL unique...Bravo! I'll put you on my Christmas list if you tell me where you got the steering wheel

Ugly is the cheap aluminum strips they have in the TL. Wood would've looked so much more upscale. It's the only thing I don't like about our car's gorgeous interior.

Carbon Fiber For Me.
I've thought about having one custom done in carbon fiber for my Ebony NBP 05.
I think carbon fiber (if you could get it to match the OEM interior) would look good. The wood looks luxurious, but I prefer the high tech look of the aluminum, and carbon fiber. That's why I choose the Ebony (the quartz was my second choice) interior. I'm not crazy about the wood. Love that high tech look though!

Acura now offers a wood steering wheel, go to build and price for the 2006 TL, the part is $519, but you can get it for cheaper on ebay. Acura of Escondido sells it.

That wood stering wheel is the so pathetically ugly I can't stand it! How could you ruin the natural look of the wheel with this hidious aftermarket waste of money? I love my 04 TL and have no complaints....however, I feel for fellow TL owners who wish they purchased a Lexus or etc. Sorry to sound like a complete a-hole but this is the way I feel.
And for the comments of others that the wood in the TL is way better than the silver trim...you've got to be high. Maybe if you would modify the outside skirts to match the interior wood trim, it would change my mind.
