Wndow Tinting Worth the Money in Virginia?

Hi all,

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this. I have a black on black 2006 TL and I live in the Northern Virginia area. The Virginia laws are really strict on driving in general and with tinting, it's not any different. The laws require that the front be no more than 50% and that the back and rear be no more than 35%. This obviously isn't much and I'm wondering if it's worth over $200 to get the windows tinted.

Also, I heard that the Acura dealerships offer window tinting with lifetime warranty. The price is around $200 too. This is weird because most dealerships don't offer the same price as out of dealership places for any job done to the car. Anyone have any input on this?

And lastly, anyone know any good tint places in Virginia? If I'm not going to get it done at the dealership, obviously the next best bet is a good, solid place in Virginia.

Thanks everyone!

here in MD, its 35% all around. i thought it would be too light, but it makes a noticible difference in asthetics and reducing squinting, but isn't so dark that you can't see anything out the back window at night. 50% is probably not worth it though. I have seen hundreds of VA cars with much darker tint than 35% in front. guess its one of those low risk chances you decide whether or not to take. i'd go with the 35% all around. if a cop gets a bug up his ass about it, its easy to pull off the fronts and not expensive to replace (most of the cost goes into the rear window with the complex curves and the defroster bars). However, If you live in Fairfax, you may want to go legit...they are dicks there!

I live in Northern Va. I have a 06 ASM/Ebony w/Navi. Just a month old, I traded in a 05 NBP/Ebony. On the 05 I got the windows tinted at a place in Herndon big mistake. On sunny days the tint was like looking thru dirt. I only had them tinted there because it was convenient.

My past 3 cars were tinted at LA Tint in Alexandria, Richmond Hwy. This is the only place I'll do it again. And will get it done in 2 weeks. Ask for Archer. If you have navi you need to get the ceramic tint.

I had 50% on the back 35% on the front on my 03 Altima was never stop for it. Archer did the work.

Good Luck

I think it is worth it for the most part in VA if you have 35 all the way around cops are not going to do much to you...I have a friend who has been pulled over twice and they checked his tint and it came out as 35 and they just let him go. As for me I am going to get mine done at LA Tint in Manasas on Wednesday with 35 all the way around.

hey guys, thanks for the feedback! it most definitely helps. I'm really considering getting 35% all around at this point.

Big B, I was looking at LA Tint in Manassas too cause I heard they were pretty good. Can you let me know how it goes? That's one of the places I looked into.

Also, I'm guessing no one recommends to get it done at Acura?

The guy gives me a discount, because of previous sales. I think it's going to be about $260, for the top of the line tinting. I paid $220 for that guy in Herndon so the extra will be worth it. They use Forumla One Tint.
