Wiperblades

My OEM wiper blades are horrible. They not only leave streaks, but they made a loooonggg scratch on the windshield that i've been having trouble taking off.

I'm looking for some new wiper blades. I read previously that the silblades are good and I tried the silblade - uniblade ones and after installing them, and i'm going to return them because they suck...

Anyways, I read that the piaa wiper blades are good. I'm looking for them on amazon and was going to purchase them, but it doesn't come with the solution that you're supposed to apply on the wiper blades. I don't get why the solution only comes with the package when you're buying replacement wipers

Amazon.com: PIAA 95065 Super Silicone Black Wiper Blade, 26" (Pack of 1): Automotive Amazon.com: PIAA 95065 Super Silicone Black Wiper Blade, 26" (Pack of 1): Automotive

I always just go with the cheaper Aanco ones from walmart or wherever. They work great!

I've had good luck with the Honda OEM inserts.......especially for ~$11 for both, and Rain-X for good measure!

How old are they? It's recommended to replace your wipers every six months, so if yours are older than that, any new wiper blade will be better than what you've got. I've used Bosch, Canadian Tire brand, and countless others. There is no huge difference between any of them. The Bosch did last the longest before breaking down though.

I went with PIAA inserts

They did not come with the silicone treatment and they work great. If they last more than 6 months I will use them again

my 2 year old (come october) PIAAs have been pretty decent thus far. They're not perfect, but they wipe well enough to be visible.

so for the piaa inserts, i just buy the rubber inserts by removing the ones from my current OEM wiper blades? will they fit?

OEM Honda refills. They work amazing and are cheaper than the cheapest blades you can buy at Autozone. This is a well kept secret.

like guy said, go with the cheapest and replace it every 6 months still better than using your premium blades for two years

16 and 18 are the blades, 17 and 19 are the refills. Pull the part numbers and pick up at your local dealership for about $1.00 more than the site.

so knowing this, the time is about the same.

$5-6 / blade from the dealer that last 6 months is about the same for a $20 PIAA assembly that lasts 2 years.

it's actually cheaper over time if you just use PIAA refills that last more than a year. I had to buy the whole wiper assy. because the prev owner tossed the OEM wipers.

Any automotive glass place will work on it. They'll try to fix it first, but sometimes you need a new windshield. Depending on how deep the scratches are, the glass could be weakened or it could impair the driver's vision.

And why would you bury this question at the end of a thread about wiperblades? This would have had more viewers if you had posted it as its own thread.

They are actually 2 very close together parallel scratches curving and appear near the end of my wiper blades to the top point of where the wiper blades go when you turn them on. I think i turned the wiper blades on once when it wasn't raining and it caused scratches... but man I hate those scratches and I'm thinking of getting some glass polisher or something and try to get em out that way.

Well, you probably scratched up your windshield because you didn't replace your wiper blades for quite a long time and the rubber wore off. Same thing happened to my girlfriend's TSX. She had OEM blades and never replaced them. The whole rubber wore off and there was plastic scratching the windshield. I replace mine at least once a year. I got the OEM wiper blades as soon as I got the car and OEM and yea, I know that they look so standard but the performance is amazing. They don't miss a spot and they are the best blades I have had so far compare to the Autozone ones or even branded ones like Bosch. I prefer the OEM wiper blades since they are profiled to fit the windshield perfectly. Other blades have different profiles so that is why a lot of them will give you missed spots. Once you have OEM blades then you don't have to replace the whole piece. Just get the inserts from the stealership. It will cost you less than $15 for both. Replace them at least twice a year and you will be happy. Another good thing about the OEM's is that you don't lose the performance if you are doing highway speeds. Some aftermarket ones would lose the "traction" when doing high speeds. Just wanted to share some thoughts.

Thanks

^^+1 Agreed. As I mentioned above, I have always used the OEM inserts and been very happy with them on multiple Honda / Acura vehicles.

I got OEM insert in my TL and Michellin steath series in my IS and both of them perform perfect after a year being out door all the time.

I have a set of Bosch Icon's on my TL right now. I need to replace the inserts though as last winter was tough on them. I have done the rain-x thing before and while it is great for highway driving, it doesn't help much for city driving. Basically you have to be going above 40MPH for the water to want to move off of the windshield. Plus there is sometimes a little bit of a haze I've noticed when driving at night with Rain-X on the windshield.

Thumbs up

I'm confused about the OP's post about the PIAA blades not bringing the silicone treatment.

OP, there is no treatment that you put onto the blades. The blades are silicone and the little white packet that comes with it is what you put on the windshield to create a water-repellent layer between the wiper blade and the glass, which makes the movement of the blade back and forth smoother as well.

The ones you posted are the exact ones I've had for almost five years now and they work just fine. There is no additional treatment you are missing out on here.

Of course, your mileage may vary but plenty of people love the PIAA Super Silicone variety. I've tried Bosch, OEM, Michelin and even used the Rain-X treatment, and I've stuck with PIAAs since they performed the best for my TL.

(And I live in northern Utah/Idaho, where temps get to -30 in the winter and in the mid 90s in the summer. They didn't get destroyed by the winter unlike others I've tried).

Good luck!

i use rainx latitudes (was considering bosch icons, but latitudes were on sale from pep boys at the time).

i also use rainx washer ..... which is good in summer b/c it beads up pretty well

now that its summer, we should try not to go too fast just so you dont have to use the wipers ...... its now more important to get a nice clean wipe per swipe

I just installed a Bosch icon and the build of this wiper is a lot better then the Bosch advantage that I previously had on. But its about double the price.
