Arrow Winter maintenance checklist! (6MT)

Hello all,

Winter time is quickly approaching here in Ohio and we finally have some nice weather this weekend. I would like to give my car a run over (fluid checks, visual inspection, preventative maintenance type stuff).

Is there a comprehensive resource I can refer to? With my 5AT TL that I used to have, I understood the car better so I felt more confident checking it over. Since this is my first manual drivetrain that I've owned, I want to make sure that I am not missing anything.

Thanks!

I'm in canada and i put my 3g away for the winter, i don't even mess with it anymore after my 02 type s had a rotted subframe from severe winters. but def get it undercoated while you have some dry weather. should be good to go. maybe flush the coolant system?

As far as a 6MT is concerned, nothing additional is required over a 5AT. You could always flush your transmission fluid, but that's not required for winterization per say. You could also change your clutch fluid, but again, that's more of a regular maintenance item rather than a winterized ion concern. Beyond that, nothing else is required

Nothing really aside from normal maintenance like most said. Maybe do some paint prep. I just got some new winter tires, going to change the oil soon so I don't have to do it in the middle of winter. Inspect the brakes wouldn't be a bad idea.

+1. Our daily driver in Minneapolis winters is a 2008 TL with snow tires, new wipers, -30 wiper fluid, and weathertek floor mats. We only need to drive a 4x4 every now and then when we get a big dump and the plows have not kept up.

check your brakes, lights, spare, and slap on the winter tires would be my recommendation on top of what others have said

I got by last winter in Toronto slammed on bald all-seasons lol. I lost my fender liners and my bumper ripped off once from trying to exit my driveway.. but aside from that ehh it wasnt so bad. Keep a steady throttle and momentum, VSA off, avoid hard braking, and be mindful of conditions and other drivers. The TL does good in the winter, its nice and heavy and the LSD really helps if you have 6mt.

I attempted to drive my 6mt Type S a few times last winter and it was pretty poor. I was used to things be fairly manageable from previous automatic Type S's with the original Michelin's. I know last year wasn't a normal winter for us in Chicago as the temps and snow amounts were significantly beyond normal levels, but the car handled very poorly. Obviously its all about the tires, and I was running brand new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. I had higher hopes for those tires in snow, even though I understand they weren't a dedicated snow tire. Enough of that crap, I have a Grand Cherokee now to have fun with in those months!
