Windshield Trim

Windshield Trim
This is one of those good news / bad news kind of things. I've had an occasional rattle near the windshield pillar for a while now, but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. The good news is, now I know.
The bad news, I have no idea how to fix this.
This morning, I noticed that the trim that runs up the driver's side of the windshield (and all the way over the roof to the back window) was sticking up about an inch from the glass. Has anyone ever removed or replaced this piece?
Looking at the clips, I see how it attaches to the car: There are little pegs on the body in the windshield channel, and the trim piece has plastic clips with keyhole-shaped holes that go over those pegs. It looks to me like you then have to slide the plastic clips to get them to lock onto the pegs. The problem is, once the trim piece is on those pegs, you can't get to the clips to slide them.
I realize this probably makes very little sense in writing, but I'm hoping that someone has done this before, and that it makes sense to them.
