Windshield scratch

I was rain-x'ing my windshield today and forgot to remove my wedding band. Well in one of my circular motions I seem to have put a scracth in my windshield. It's a titamium ring to so I guess it's possible, although this has never happened to me in my life . I tried to clean it out and then compound it out...no luck.

Now for the advice section:
1) Could I have scratched the windshield w/ a ring?
2) What's the best way to fix, replace or is there another remedy?

1) Windshields can scratch relatively easy when in contact with metal or stones. So, your ring could be the culprit. I would try to blame it on something else so that you can get insurance to pay for it. The repair will be at least $500 or so.

2) Extremely light scratches can potentially be buffed out. A deeper scratch will require replacement. If it needs to be replaced, find a VERY good shop and get it done IN the shop (mobile services tend to not be as careful).

There are two big potential problems when getting a windshield replaced
(a) to loosen the windshield, careless glass techs will use tools that will scratch the paint/trim around the windshield
(b) to pry and lift out the windshield, the tech will often put a lot of body weight on the door panels. This WILL dent your panels.

I had a windshield replaced on my old Civic. I did not pick the glass shop carefully. Afterward I had to get some spots repainted because of scratching, and I had to go to paintless dent removal place to fix the door panels.

My wife scratched my side window with her ring. I have just learned to live with it. There isn't much you can do to fix it.
