Windshield is not cheap...

Holy shit... My windshield had a crack in it and had to get it replaced. The damn thing costed over $800 with parts/labor..

Insurance flipped with no deductable as I am in FL and it has a law, but the bad part is my premium is going to go up now as in Dec I had a 3k+ claim for something else...

Would have been about 400 less if I let them do aftermarket, but its just such a nice car I want all stock....

Just thought I would share that incase anyone wondered, lol list price for the window alone is 773.10... They charged $695.xx Rest was other parts and install labor...

The dude installed the window in less than an hour...

I paid $250 because i work for safelite autoglass. I decide to use the PPG windshield because it has better quality. The dealer windshield is too expensive and not better than PPG.

Does it come with the rearview mirror mount like the OEM and have the black dots around that area also?

Not that it matters anymore, but hey...

The main difference between the two windshields is that the OEM Acura windshield has the sound absorbing material between the layers of glass. Have you noticed any difference in the noise level with the PPG windshield?

Also, people have posted that our glass is more susceptible to stone chips. Have you had it in long enough to see any difference?

i used aftermarket glass and the people who installed it said it had the sound absorbing layer. i told them i did not want a windshield with that anymore because i thought it was a weaker glass, they said they were unable to get an aftermarket windshield that did not have it.

Odd, the guy who replaced mine is who my dealer uses, and he gave me option on glasss but recommended factory and I agreed.

Anyway he said the layer inbetween the glass helps with the sound but also in that it gives the glass two layers... My outer layer was cracked, while the inner layer and the vinal crap inside held it together still... So I guess the other kinda glass would be thicker? making it stronger but if it did crack would go all the way through?

Anyway, I just figure its a new car and I wanted it how it was. Something like a windshield is not something to play with and I figure the oem would be better, but I know thats not always the case of course, thanks to this site. hehe

I was quoted $1150 for OEM glass for a chip. Aftermarket glass for the TL does is not acustical glass and the road noise would be greater. The PPG is clearer that the OEM glass but I prefer the tinting. I couldn't stomach replacing the glass with only 1080miles on the car. Currently I have almost 10K miles on the repair and hardly realize its there.

The PPG windshield thick and durable. Double layer. It's Sound Master oem windshield. I ordered the windshield from the dealer and when I opened the box and handle the windshield it felt really light. I went into the warehouse and grabbed the ppg windshield and felt way stronger and a bit heavy compared to the dealer windshield. I talked to Techs who install the glass and all of them recommended the ppg windshield.

Wow, I'm glad I have full glass coverage on my insurance. I had a chip a couple months ago that turned into a large crack. I called my insurance, they hooked me up with a local glass company . . . and they came out to where I work and had it replaced in 45 minutes. No charge to me.

I do have a question though. Does the factory windshield have the tinted area on the top? My replacement windshield looked perfect but also had about 6 inches of tinted glass at the top. I couldn't remember if the factory windshield had that or not.

I paid a little over $300. I was told it had the sound layer in it. I mean how will I know its not? It had all of the black dots and this little metalic film where the rear view mirror goes. I was even suprised they were able to get my inspection sticker back on.

Just wait until you have to replace the rear. Since the defroster and radio antenna is inbuilt, you've got some money to spend to replace it. I had that problem with my previous 2000 Monte Carlo. The dealer wanted a ton to replace it and that's on a GM car.

My EX broke my front and rear windshield. Thanks god I work for safelite autoglass. I wanted the back glass from the dealer because it brings the molding on the sideS. Unlike the aftermarket from ppg because it bring no molding. You can only purchase the bottom molding from the Dealer. The molding on the side already comes with rearglass. The backglass is $800. f**k that. I had ppg installed.

I just arranged to have my front window replaced due to a foot long crack I just incurred.

Dealer (Acura of Pleasanton wanted $750 + tax

Called Dublin Honda and they referred me to the company that does their replacements Perfection Auto Glass in Livermore. Through my Insurance, and with the shop knocking off $100 off of my deductible, I will be paying $400 out the door

The glass will be exactly the same as the factory glass (made by AP Tech who supplies Honda).

I will post a review of their work after tomorrow.
