Window Tint & "Drivetrain" vibration ( and other problems ) update
Hello to all.
I just took my '04 TL to the dealer for an A1 Service on Satrurday.
1. The tint on the windows is scratched due to the tight tolerance between the windows
and the window seals. The sevice advisor told me that the dealer can't do anything
about it and I have to take the car to the tinting company to get new tint or a fix.
I refuse to go through this run around and pay for something that Acura has
poorly engineered into this car. I was able to contact the owner of the dealership,
he told me to bring the car back to them and they will fix the problem. Imagine that?
2. The ongoing Engine Vibration debate.... Well, once again I mentioned the problem to
the service advisor, I got the same story... " Acura is aware of many owners that have
this problem and right now there is nothing we can do...." I also mentioned this
to the owner of the dealershop. He explained that as soon as Acura comes up with a
a fix, they will recall all TLs to get this resolved. My vibration problem does not sound
as severe as others in this forum, but if I paid close to $ 40,000 for a vehicle,
especially an Acura, which has a good rep for reliability, I don't deserve to be treated
like this. My wife now wants to give the car back and get a BMW. How long does one
have to wait to get thsi resolved...and hopefully not forgotten? I'm thinking about the
Lemon Law now...because this problem needs to be corrected promptly, and I should
not be told every few months that there's nothing that can be done.
3. We also reported a problem with the interior...the door panel leater on the right
passenger door has come apart from where it's tucked into part of the door panel.
The dealer has ordered a new door panel and we will set an appointment for
this repair when the new door panel gets in.
4. Now, this is minor, but once again another example of the lack of quality control
that this dealership has been up to. The license plate holder on the rear
of the car was missing the bottom 2 screws that hold the license plate to the
frame of the car. This was fixed during the visit.
I just wanted to let my fellow forum members know of this ordeal to let them know they are not alone in all of this and if anyone would like to comment or share the same or similar problems, please do. I'm interested to know if anyone is or has considered Lemon Law action or other means of correcting this mess. By the way, I understand that many new cars will have some minor problems after being purchased, my Dodge Dakota had a few, but they were all resolved and I have not had any problems getting things resolved. I don't feel like I'm asking too much here, afterall, we are talking about ACURA, a well respected name in the automotive business. This has got to change.

your local/state lemon laws will dictate when the dealer must buy back the car.
schedule a service appointment and ask for a loaner. then on that day tell them to keep the car until it is fixed. lemon laws usually state that if it cannot be fixed in a certain period of time it can be clasified as a lemon (i wonder what it takes to be a lime
)
my impression thus far with TL is that the have a nice engine in a shady car. i'm very surprised that they did not catch any of this during new model testing.
as for tint, car comes with no filmed tint, so it's not the cars' fault. you need moleskin. does your tinter know what moleskin is? if tinter is good they would be aware of this issue with TL.

I am in the same situation. My car has numerous rattles, that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the driveline vibration. Just got back from a 20 minute highway trip and I go crazy everytime I have to drive the car on the highway. It starts at 60 mph and does not go away.
I had all 4 tires replaced, did nothing. I called Acura and got the usual story. They are aware of the problem but will not do anything other than replace the tires. As you can tell from the numerous posts on this topic, the tires do not seem to be the issue as the problem still exists with aftermarket tires.
I give up.

Does the Lemon Law only apply to leased vehicles? I sure hope not as I NEVER lease vehicles.
The reason I ask is the following regarding Lemon Laws in the state of FL
QUALIFICATION: 3 unsuccessful repairs or 15 calendar days within 24 months from delivery.
NOTIFICATION/TRIGGER: Written notice by certified or express mail to manufacturer who has 10 calendar days for final repair attempt after delivery to designated dealer. State has certified guidelines for arbitration. State-run arbitration mechanism available. Law specifically applies to leased vehicles.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
