Will a bad spark plug throw a CEL?

Question is ... will a bad spark plug throw a check engine light?

Since I bought the car used at 55K miles I've just thought that the torque at low end was pretty low. The engine was a bit loud too. Not too loud but louder than my previous accord that I traded in.

Anyway at 56K today I decided to get the spark plugs replaced. Whoa! Big difference. The car is quieter, calmer and a bit more responsive.

I don't know maybe it's just my imagination.

Any thoughts? I didn't have a check engine light and I was wondering if it was just bad plugs.

if the plug is bad enough to cause a misfire, then yes.

Monday UPDATE:

Whatever the problem was with my engine being sluggish and a bit noisy (almost droning) went away with the spark plug change.

I love the car! Feels new.

Almost the same as mine at 56K. Next up on my list is the brake fluid flush. I'll do this after the holidays.

I didn't want to fool around with the plugs. I ordered the OEM NGK plugs. I got them from Advanced Auto Parts.

Look for NGK Iridium IZFR6K11

aren't iriduim's pretty expensive? but really good quality plugs? So after pushing the car yesterday.. my CEL came on. It flashed at first, but now it just stayed on...

Iridiums are a bit pricey but they are supposed to last longer than others.

Pop the hood and see if there's anything leaking or out of place. If you have CAI make sure the rubber hose is clamped properly and there's no vaccum leak.

It's hard to say what the CEL would be unless you have the car plugged into the computer to see what the error code is.

Good luck buddy.

NGK Iridium IX are available at kragens - under 7 bucks eack- 45 for a full set
Dont use autolite or other brands. The densos cost more and last shorter time
Get NGK
OE is not the best- technology changes and cars are made on the cheap
Platinum was the good metal before- with advances- Iridium can now be used- takes heat better- mope efficient yada yada get them

hm I have about 96k on my 2G TL and I am almost positive they are the original. I plan to get them done at the 105k service like Acura recommends. Thats the huge really expensive one where I need to get my timing belt done too. I am really hoping that once I get them done my car will also run much better (not that its running shitty).

Let's just hope your spark plugs would still come out of its socket . I've heard horror stories wherein the whole head gets stripped because they seized.

I'll have my timing belt done in 75K next year and at the same time install underdrive pulley (mod).

I posted a thread two weeks ago about the stuff that needs to be replaced along with this maintenance such as water pump etc etc etc.
