Wierd interior memory behavior (audio and air settings)

So, I walk out of the store today and attempt to start the car. Maybe I didn't hold the key in the start position long enough but the car didn't start on first try...but it immediatly started on the second try. I tell myself, not a big deal, it happens all the time if you dont hold the key in the start position long enough.

But then I noticed the AC is on and the fan speed is on manual. Didn't seem right, because I had the fan set to auto and the AC was off before I got out of the car. So, I tell myself not a big deal and hit the auto button and drive off.

Then I turn on the radio and find my XM presets are all on channel 1 and all the FM presets have been reset. This really threw me off and for a min I started having doubts if this was acutally my car lol.

Anyways, I was still in the parking lot so I pull over and shut the car off. Opened/closed the door, hit the lock button on my remote, then unlocked it and started the car. Well, now everything was back to normal. My AC settings were back to where I had it initially (auto with AC off) and all my radio presets were back.

Really weired behavior...any clues what could cause this?

I had a similar thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Came out to my car, started fine, then noticed all my presets were gone and the climate control was different than my normal settings, Auto 68 degrees. Hasn't happened since but has me a little concerned.

I'd be willing to bet that what happened was that during startup the voltage in the battery dipped below what was required to keep the memory active for the specific modules and thus caused a reset on your presets (hey that rhymes )

Go to autozone or an autoparts store and they can check your battery for free! If you need a new one, don't get suckered in by the dealer. I have an Energizer battery from Sams club that was 70 dollars and has a great warranty on it.

The climate control and the radio presets are keyed to the remote along with the power seat and sideview mirror positions. Is there any possibility that for some reason you didn't use the remote to unlock the car? That's an alien idea to me, but I suppose if for some reason you had had the service key or some such it might be possible.

I'll have to go try this out using remote #2. I've had the car since August 2004 and remote #2 has never been used. I'll see what the radio presets are and I'll report back.

I think I see what you're getting at. I was thinking it sounded like he was on the other memory setting for some reason. Go back and push mem 2 and see if it is setup the way you described ( ac, fan, manual, presets, etc).

I used the remote to open the locks. Also, I did not loose the seat and mirror settings, just the air and radio.

The battery is most likely it. I now recall the dealer mentioned at my last visit that my battery may need replacing within a couple months.

I guess I'll be stopping by Coscto today to pickup a new battery.

BTW...does anyone know if the battery is covered under the CPO warranty?

Are you due for a battery change?

I tested the thing I described and I found that because I've never programmed anything for Driver 2 (this was the first time I ever even used remote #2), all the presets for the radio were the same as for Driver 1 and the seat and mirrors simply didn't move when I got in.
