Why you should not use cheap or anything higher than 4300k bulbs.

Why you should not use cheap or anything higher than 4300k bulbs.
A lot of people have been asking, "Is it ok if I use 6000/8000/etc. bulbs in my TL?"
Let's address the temperature, using anything above 4300k will decrease in lumen which means less light output. Now why would anybody want to do that for?
(Because I like the ricer blue look!)
Alright, your ricer blue look will only reflect on the ground however depending on what angle you're looking at your headlights you will see different colors due to the projector color band, so ricer bulbs don't really do too much for you there and it REALLY doesn't do anything for you in the rain.
Next thing, when you buy 6000/8000k bulbs most likely they're not from a reputable name brand, they're probably a cheaply made bulb from China. The problem with that is you're putting cheap bulbs that can produce more heat and what happens when you put in cheap bulbs that produce more heat? You burn the chrome reflectors inside your projector bowl which will produce hotspots (see attached picture, taken from HIDPlanet). If you insist on using higher temperature bulbs, use an oem brand like Philips/Osram.
tl;dr use 4300k bulbs for the best light output and if you still feel the need to go higher, use an oem brand.

Who doesn't? ...
I just don't want to spend the money.
I literally just bought some Philips 85122+ a couple of hours ago from theretrofitsource ... and got free shipping from a coupon code I searched for on google. $95 total price
Will1688, mind me asking how much you spent on those, including shipping?

I bought these few months ago when hidplanet had a groupbuy, 190 shipped, i think TRS has em for a bit cheaper now? and i know that they're starting to package these here in the US in sylvania silverstar boxes.. but well worth the money to me, i love the look and lights up the road much whiter..

8000k ftw. No problems for the last 3 years. That hotspot will happen if you put a 55WAT bulb in the housing....won't happen with a 35WAT bulb. And FYI I can see fine in inclement weather with 8000k.
PS
Last I checked 6k/8k is not considered rice. Its 10k+ where it becomes rice.

I bet I could see better with my 4300k bulbs than your 8000k bulb. There is no argument here, 4300>8000 when it comes to visibility.
As for the rice thing, it's personal opinion, 6000k isn't too bad I suppose but 8000k or above is rice in my book.
But hey, it's your car, do as you please.
