Why don't the seat memory buttons work when the car is in reverse?

Why don't the seat memory buttons work when the car is in reverse?
I just discovered this weirdness today. Is there some reason? I was about to call my dealer because all of the memory buttons were dark. I played with them for a while, and discovered that they only don't function when the trans is in reverse.

Mine only works in park as well. Actually for obvious safety reasons you don't want the seat to be moving while the car is in motion. Acura's lawyers would have a field day defending that one. lol

As others have said, the seat memory buttons are disabled unless your in park, or with the MT as described above. But don't worry! Acura let's you distract yourself with so many other functions while you're driving along!
The MID, HFL, and the entire NAV system functionality (input address info to calculate directions) are all enabled and functional as you rocket down the freeway. Most other manufacturers disable this stuff as well. I wonder what else they'll think of with the next generation to distract us from rule number one; Drive the car. Always remember rule number one.

It's a safety feature. You can set the memory seats when out of Park, but they won't re-adjust your seats while you're in gear. Imagine if you hit the #2 button and it's set for your wife or someone considerably smaller. So as you're diving, you get smushed against the steering wheel. Not good!

Seat memeory is not disabled when in reverse. It work like this:
The side mirrors are tied to the memory function...
When you place the car in reverse, the right or left mirror lowers to allow you to see the curb (depending on the location of the mirro switch). When the mirror lowers, the memory function is overridden, and thus the memo light goes out.
When you place the car back in Park or Drive, the mirror comes back up to the memory stored location, and the light then comes back on.
If you put the mirror switch in the "middle" so the mirror DO NOT drop when in reverse, the memo button stays lit in reverse, because nothing changes to "violate" th ememory setting.
Make sense?

Of course it doesn't matter..I just thought it was weird.

Wow...I guess you're right..it would be FAR too dangerous if the car is in reverse. Douche.

I'm selfish and don't share my car with another driver. Driver 1 setting is my primary set up. If I've been driving for over 2 hours, I hold down the "2" button and it elevates my knees and readjusts the mirrors.
