Why does the 2004 TL feel so light?

I had a 1996 TL that felt so good. That is one bad car. The 2004 I have now feels so light. In the mornings, it takes a long time for the fluids to move. It takes approx 15 minutes for the fluids to lubricate before the weird noises stop. Has anyone else had this problem? Why does the 2004 feel light? is it due to the sporty ness of the car?

your car makes noises for the first 15 min after start up? Mine never made noises and I would leave it outside at -40C weather for 10 hours a day.

Mine doesn't make any noises but it does feel light for such a big car. I have started the Tl diet but havnt gotten to crazy with it yet.

Thanks. Why on earth would a midsize car feel like a compact? I will take it to my mechanic.

I was looking at your avatar and thought
"wow that's got some tight corners"
then I read your comment,,

thought it said "mine feels tight....... cuz it is lol"

and was about to comment

[that's what she said] lol.... dang, it was "light"?!? ahaha.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and,,, what weird noise, are you talking about the whining when you're turning the steering?

assuming your car is mechanically sound,
but you're seeing bubbles in power steering fluid reservoir,
it is most likely just a little red O ring sealing the inlet of power steering pump.

that was my case, fixed it right away.

steering got little heavier, but no noise, no bubble, no worries

Its all about power to weight ratio and suspension that makes the 3rd Gen TL feel light on its feet through any maneuvers.

^Agree...in a good way. And with a completely stock suspension setup (me here), not really the best handling car out there.

Shouldn't it being "light" make you happy and your wallet? Not a bad thing?

Can't compared a 1G TL with a 3G TL. Check the gas prices when the 1G TL came out and the gas prices now or where it was three years ago.

I had a 96 TL before my 06, and the only thing i thought was "lighter" about the 96 was the steering feel...it was like a Crown Victoria. Simply blow on the steering wheel and it turns...

I second that. Almost like a tank. But one has to understand that I came from several years driving two generations of Miatas. Honestly, the 1st generation of TL looks to be a large car to me anyway. I would think the 3G would weight substantially less without me taking the time to research the numbers.

Hm, I take it you won't be doing the TL diet....but nah, it isn't a light car per se. May just be a different feel....

1G TL vs 3G TL (having owned both)

The 1st gen TL has a heavier engine and the car has a narrower track. Plus the front suspension especially is softer. In addition the engine is mounted longitudinally with soft engine mounts. Very comfortable car, great for roadtrips. Handling? Acceptable. Mildly fun even.
