Why did you buy the TL over the G35?

Well b4 I bought TL-S, I really like the G35 coupe,
but the dealer in my city is monopoly, so they gave some kind of shit on me,
probably thought I just play around and not buying...
I love G35's exterior, not interior, the only factor drove me to buy TL-S that is dealer's attitude.

My Girlfriend has a 2000 TL and I have the 99 CL and as I do like the way the G looks as a 2dr I have to say I am defently pleased with our cars. If you dont like the way A g35 looks on the inside , then look at a 350 z they are pretty much the same car.

Don't expect to get an unbiased opinion in this forum. For one, and as a TL owner, I'd still choose the TL over the G35. Reason, I am biased and don't want to think I made a wrong choice.

i had been shopping around before buying my TL, and as soon as my local dealer got their first batch of 07 G35's, i had gone in to look. while i love the car, i was not thrilled with the pricing. i completely understand that it was a new model and all, but they were giving me lease prices in the mid 600's on a $33k car. i financed my old Jepp Grand Cherokee new, with $0 down at $608 a month...i walked right out of the dealer. i went to another dealer a few months later and they told me around $500 a month with a more than i wanted to spend out of pocket. and flat out told me "if thats the kind of pricing you want, i suggest getting a leftover" ( i wasn't too keen on the styling of the pre 07 models, so that wasnt happening) i decided i was getting A LOT more car if i opted for the acura, and went and leased my 07 TL the next afternoon

As long as I was going to buy a mid-life-crisis car, I l left the decisions to the experts:
Consumer Reports listed it as as the best car for the class in 2006.
Road & Track generally liked it.
Its a Honda so services are infrequent.
It has front wheel drive.
I wanted a car that I could run through the gears when I wanted to and one that would be civilized & refined when I wanted those qualities.
Hence, the '07 Type S

I had it down to the G35x and the TL-S. I really tried to like the G better, but in the end I was not as comfortable driving it as I was in the Acura. I am a big guy 6'-300lbs and I felt tight in the G. I was driving an 04 Accord so the Acura felt like home.
I also liked that the TL-S comes fully loaded with no extra costs. I have had the car a little over one month and I love it. I don't regret my decision at all.

I have a good view point on this as I have a 06 TL and 07 G35S, both are 6-speed manuals. To me they are both great cars and I love them both for different reasons.
G35S Pro's
Rear well drive, true sports sedan
HP and Torque, it accelerates great at all RPM's
Turning radius
Seat Support and comfort to me (not my wife though)
Audio system is much better than the TL (I like the card reader)
Better suspension than regular TL
The intelligent key (I love to be able to leave it in my pocket)
Available all wheel drive
G35S Con's
Arm rest or lack there of in the manual
Trunk space
Gas mileage (even though I am getting 20-22mpg driving it hard)
Can't access a lot of the navigation while driving
TL Pro's
Interior space
Navigation system
6-speed is smooth as silk
Gas mileage (I get 23-25 driving it hard)
It is an Acura
Excellent resale
You don't have to think to drive this car just relax
TL Con's
Front Wheel Drive Torque Steer
Audio system doesn't loud enough to hear with windows down
No auto up and down on back windows
So to sum things up, if I want to have fun driving I take the G35S, if I am going out for a nice dinner with more than my wife, or traveling I take the TL. If I could only have one of these cars I still am not sure which one I would chose though.

Reasons to buy TL
Reasons to buy TL:
1. Honda. I traded in an Accord with 247000 on the odometer. It only left me
standing once, and Honda picked up the tab for that.
2. Honda. Look at the ratings in Consumer Reports--only the Lexus SC430 has
ratings that high. They rated the 07 GS35 sedan higher, but its individual
ratings are lower.
3. Honda. Best resale value.
4. FWD. It snows here and I live 45 miles out in the country.
5. Flat gorgeous inside and out, most of the good toys standard.
6. Good mileage. I average 27 mpg day in, day out.
Reasons not to buy TL:
1. FWD. I wanted that, but if you drive 10/10ths you won't be happy.
2. Turning radius of the USS Ronald Reagan. You'll get used to it, but it is
inconvenient in a parking lot.
3. Until you change rubber the rims seem to hit curbs before the tires do.
4. Premium gas.
I look forward to my commute. I look for excuses to drive it. I love it.

27? Are you driving slow? 21 is the best I can get.

Dumb topic because all of the people on here will say TL
Should ask this in the off topic section.
For me, I would take RWD or AWD over FWD anyday. Give me the G35!

I looked at the new G35 and didn't care for the egg shape. The interior looks cheap, the drivers seat sucks compared to my TL-S, the only thing I liked was optional AWD, BUT it didn't come with the sport pkg. Sport pkg was on RWD model. I like Lexus much more then Infiniti. But the G35 coupe is very nice. But it probably has the same shitty seats! No other car would make me as happy as the 07 TL-S for the money!!!

Could be worse... 04 Maxima takes 41 feet to U turn, 3 more than the TL!
Anyway, test drove a lot of cars before ordering our 04 TL. In the end, the list below high lighted the main reasons we ordered the TL instead of a G35 4dr and others:
1. Best looking Body style (the G35 4dr body style was getting old back in 04, too tall, too narrow like a dinner roll - now the G35 coup’s proportions are real nice, IMHO).
2. Best looking and roomiest interior (the G35s seemed cheaper and not as refined and with the sport interior, it only seated 4 instead of 5).
3. DASH and interior lumination (love the blue LED lighting!).
4. Power (the TL had more).
5. Acura reputation and Honda reliability (Let's just say "at the time")
6. The electronics (Nav [way better than the 04 G35], HFL, ELS, LED Lighting, XM, Voice command, etc...).
7. Value and estimated resale (the G35 outfitted like the TL would have been more expensive, lower resale value).
8. Lastly, our baby seat didn't fit well with the G35 sport interior back seats (the seats were cut too deep and the center was too high).
Happy Motoring!

I've test driven the TL, non-type s and recently type s and it is nicer than the TSX of course, but lacked the responsiveness and torque of a BMW 328 and 335, IS350, and the new 07 G35.
All I'm saying is the TL is a good car, but some of you need to not be so bias towards your car and reassure yourselves that you made a good purchase and didn't waste your money. Every car has its pros and cons and I still believe RWD and AWD is better than FWD in terms of performance and in the case of AWD better handling in all weather conditions.

I'm currently shopping for my next car (due by the end of May) and test drove the TL-S, IS350 and the G35 sedan just yesterday. The second I sat in a fully loaded G35S I knew that I didn't want it. The interior is terrible and while the sport seats are very comfortable, I just couldn't get over how cheap the interior felt compared to the IS and TL

To keep things in perspective (and to those MISinformed about Acura reliability over Infiniti reliability)...
Infiniti is ranked higher than both Honda AND Acura in long term reliability.

I too tested the 2007 models of IS350, 328i, 335i, G35.
The TL-S is much quicker than the 328i. No comparison. Hard to find equipped the same way the TL-S is. I would of had to special order.
The IS350 is nice but just too small for my tastes. Same as the 328i for equipment, I would of had to special order. It was quick and fun to drive, I would say on par with the TL-S for street driving.
The G35 just didn't do it for me at all. I didn't like the interior and it just didn't seem as quick.
The 335i on the other hand is a beast and very quick. I would much rather have it than the TL-S but equipped the same it's about $10k more.
For performance alone AWD will not fare well against FWD or RWD.

First of all, Hi. (first post.) I bought an '04 G35 last November because i fell in love with the way it performed on the test drive. It's RWD, quick with lots of low end torque and really sounded great w/ the cold air intake. Well, to make a long story short, everytime I got into it I liked it a little bit less. I never had any major problems with it but there were so many little things:
1. Gas milage. 26 MPG when driving like an old woman. I got 23 MPG when driving like a jackass.
2. For a luxury car it was shamefully ill-equiped. No auto-dim rear view mirror. No dual zone climate control. (oh yeah, you could buy these as options, but they're all standard on the TL.
3. And most of all, get this, if you left the lights on...IT WOULD KEEP THEM ON UNTIL THE BATTERY RAN DOWN!!! There's no excuse for that in an '04 luxury car. My '98 Mazda would turn the lights off if you left them on.
4. The interior just didn't 'fit' me. I didn't realize how important that was until I took a long road trip. There was a sharp ledge right on my knee where I usually rest my left leg when I drove and sometimes my right leg would fall asleep as I drove. I'm sure that's not the case for everyone but it was for me.
Well, like I said I liked the car a little bit less every time I drove it and eventually found myself at the Acura dealer. Got me a nice WDP type-s. It's a comfort to ride in and a pleasure to drive. I will say that I think my G35 outperformed my TL but not my much.

Before I bought my TL-S, I test drove an 06 TL, an 07 G35x, and an 06 IS350.
- Loved the IS350...everything except that with the same options, it more expensive and that it was...so... small. I don't understand why they even put the rear doors in.
- The G35x was had a really nice exterior, and have some pretty cool options. (Hard-drive, CF reader, whole dash that moves, etc.) But When I sat in the drivers seat, it didn't "feel right". I felt a bit claustrophobic. Not that the interior was small... it's not... it just didn't feel spacious. I didn't like the controls of the car... i-drive like thing to control everything...interior quality was good, but I didn't like the way it was designed. Just not intuitive. But, the handling and power.... woot!
- The 06 TL was great looking inside and out. Not enough power on the auto and handling seemed a bit off.
- When I test drove the 07 TL-S, I decided to get it right away. The car had just enough power to satisfy my hunger, but wasn't amazingly strong like the 350 or G35. The interior was awesome - everything nicely laid out and where. The best part was that I felt like I was piloting a jet fighter or spaceship - the car may not be that fast, but at least I could pretend!

I test drove the G35 coupe. Everyone has discussed looks, handling, and such so I won't mention those. However the thing that made me chose the TL over the G35 was a very simple item... the seats.
I'm 6'1" about 220. I'm not a huge guy but not small either and still in decent shape. However I was hit by a car while walking across the street when I was young so I have some pain when driving long distances in my right hip. The G35 has that plastic peice on the inner portion of the seat bottom with the window controls. As soon as I sat down in the seat that plastic piece was jabbing into my side. I went ahead and test drove the car for about 10 minutes. By the time I was done with the test drive my right hip hurt so bad from that plastic piece on the side that I knew that this car was not an option no matter what it looked like or how it drove. That was for an '06 G35.
The TL seat fits me great and is really comfortable. I can drive 7 hours in it with relatively little pain in my hip.

I liked the TL-S and the g35 the same, but I got a much better deal on the Acura, and my previous car was an Acura. The tie-breaker for me was the deal I got. The Infiniti dealer was a little too arrogant about their new G35, and was unwilling to work with me.
The TL-S is slower, but it was more comfortable for me. I would have been happy with either choice, but I stuck with the familiarity of Acura.

I was between the G35x and TL-S before I purchased my TL-S. It was close, but I didn't like the "soft" ride of the G35x, but I'm sure the G35s or the G37 will have a firm ride. I also didn't like the interior of the G35 as much as I like the TL, although you get a screen even w/o nav on the G35. Definately like the int/ext styling of the TL much better than the G35 eventhough the TL has been around for a bit. The promo financing from Honda/Acura helped me decide also, but I think that deal ended. I actually got a great offer for the G35x ($36,500) w/ nav., but I still ended up buying the TL-S.
I'm pretty happy with my purchase overall, and if I did it over again, I probably would get the TL-S.

Should ask this in the off topic section.
For me, I would take RWD or AWD over FWD anyday. Give me the G35!

I thought the G35 cars have stiffer ride overall. no?
The level of ride stifness/responsiveness:
G35 Sport Coupe - 9.4
G35 - 9.0
TL Type-S 6MT - 9.5
TL 6MT - 9.0
TL Type-S 5AT - 9.0
TL 5AT - 8.6
My Enzo Ferrari... - 10.0
