Why did you buy the TL over the G35?

in the market for a TL but was lookin at G35 Coupes, why did you guys choose the TL over the G35 sedan or coupe? my parents have a sedan so i wouldnt get one but was lookin at the G35 coupes. I did a poll on another site and most said G35s, i personally Love the interior of the TL and dont care for the G35 interior so im leanin towards gettin a TL.

TL had more bang for the buck features wise, and I like the sharp lines on the TL vs. the bubbly-ness of the G35.

G35x = 40k...rather save 4k and get the FWD TL-S which has a nicer interior and looks bigger etc

I wasn't a fan of the front end of the G35 nor was I impressed with their interior finish. All in all, the TL wins for both exterior and interior finish for me. Oh, the blue instrumentation lights sold me over the day glow orange of the G.

I didn't like the exterior nor the interior of the G35. I love the looks of the exterior of the TLS and the interior is one of the nicest in the market. When I went for a test drive and initially sat in the driver's seat, I knew this car was meant to be. Hmm...the g35...Not so much.

same here, TL interior plus back in 05 the g35 sedan exterior wasnt appealing to me... if the current g35 sedan was being sold I would've gotten that in a heartbeat

ibtl (maybe) even though I think this is a valid question/topic

g35 wasn't as appealing as TL in 2004. Cheap interior and okay exterior drove me to buy a TL.

The G35 had the seat controls on top of the seat. So when I sit in it, they were digging into the bottom of my right thigh.

And it was just a cleaner, sharper design

Honestly I think I would have got a G35 Coupe IF i could get the 08 coupe... but since thats not out and I needed a car... The Type S was the way to go. 3.9% apr helped. I must say the interior of the TL is way better then the g35.

Yep, the interior of the G35 is inferior to the TL. You also have to remember that Infiniti is a Nissan product - no thanks.

I have to agree with nmsujeff88 ...... just the name Nissan makes me run far far away. Nissan got some of the worst reviews in reliability, even worse than some american car makers. I test drove a G35 and other than the nice note you hear from the exhaust, it's a very ordinary car to me atleast. Looks wise, although a totally hooked up G35 coupe looks sweet, the key words are "totally hooked up". A stock TL without any mods looks hot right off the lot.

I did liked the G35 though, i love the led taillights, and basically the only thing i like. But the TL gotta love everything about it. I am glad i wait a month or two and got the TL instead of the G35.

i LOVE the g35 coupe. absolutely love it....but

1) GAS GUZZLER!!! something like a 20 gallon tank, and POOR mileage
2) Interior is CRAPPY and cheap. The TL was soo much more appealing
3) Acura has better reviews, reliability and residual value
4) i dont like nissans too much
5) too common to see one with rims on it. finding a nicely done 3G tl is such a rarer and classier find!!

the g35 is super hot though. i think i kinda like the exterior a little more, but its sooooo played out.

I had a 2000 Altima SE (this one I put 67,000 miles on it) and a 2003 Altima (27, 000), was very happy with both. But they were both 4 bangers. I wanted a V6 in 2005 but didn't like how they changed the dash of the Altima, so went with TL.

Becuase we had a 2003 G35 coupe and we had too many problems with it. And the TL has been my dream car since the 3gs came out. Another thing for me was the interior and all the tech goodies. The navi in the G35s suck, especially that joystick... The G35 coupe is pretty damn sexy, but after I got the TL i did notice that the fron is REALLY round. I don't like that, but other than that the G35 is still sexy, not the sedans though.

2)Most gurls I asked which they think is sexier said hands down the TL
3)$$$
4)Its an acura.....it wont break down
4)The interior is a lot better then the G35
5)After test driving both, I was able to "feel" the dimensions on the TL a lot better/faster then on the G35. So I was a lot more comfortable driving it.

The only thing the g35 coupe had going for it was speed (hp) and rwd. I heard they break down a lot. I heard they are a nightmare in snow conditions. They get worse mileage.

I'm with most of the posters here.... TL interior is much, much nicer than the G35. Actually, IMHO, Honda interiors in general are much nicer than Nissan - Better materials, logical layout and great 'feel'.

I've been in a few G35's (several different model years) and the quality of the material is not indicative of a $35k+ car, although I will give them props for improving the overall look of the G's interior in this iteration.

If you're looking for a car based on HP numbers, the G35 is for you. But if you're looking for refinement, standard tech toys and an all-around fun car to drive, get the TL.

And that, ladies and gents, is why I picked my TL over the G35.

drive on and you will know why, well actually look also cause the lines on the TL flow sooo much better then the G35, and the g35 interior is not worth the money, better off getting a new 3 series.

Gas mileage was the deciding factor over the G35S sedan.

TL - Looks (w/A-Spec kit!), interior, reliability

G35 - RWD, performance, don't see many around here (plus)

I can't stand the look of the G35's rear. The sedan looks the worst. The Coupe is okay but the rear end still bothered me. The interior looked definitely crappy for a 35~40k car too, so I had to go Acura route.. The interior and the killer looks of the exterior sold me. I feel like driving an Alfa Romeo 164 Super series..

I didn't like the design at the time, crappy interior, RWD (practical reasons, but global warming is lessening the effect of winter in my area so may become a non-factor), have to get different packages to add up to the standard features of TL, plus the TL looks better! I have never liked the exterior of the G, albeit newer version has a few differences that I like. Most of my car purchases have been Honda/Acura. The best ones anyway!

When I bought my '05 TL I considered it against the '05 G35 too. There are not many sports/sporty sedans in this price range and size that offer 6-speed manual transmissions so my choices were a bit limited. I had a 2002 Nissan Maxima and I wanted to step up a level.

What I liked about the TL:

Interior design was a piece of artwork - best I've seen in a car in this price range ever. To this day, almost four years since it was first introduced, it's still one of, if not still, the best interior design, IMHO.
Exterior styling was very modern. I could tell, like many Honda/Acura designs, it would age well over the years.
Despite the 270 that was really 258 horsepower, the TL got pretty good gas mileage for a high performance engine.
6-speed shifter was very smooth, precise, and silky. Yes, I've had the 3rd gear problem but it was fixed with new transmission fluid (GM Synchromesh).
Awesome sound system.
Honda/Acura reliability was a given.

What I didn't like about the TL:

Front wheel drive thus torque steer (not nearly as bad as my Maxima though).
HUGE turning radius is inconvenient.
No heated steering wheel (yeah, I'm a wimp on cold days).
Lack of low end torque compared to the G35 and my '02 Maxima. The TL just didn't FEEL as fast despite the numbers that said it was just as fast.

What I liked about the G35:

Rear-wheel drive made it a true sports sedan.
The 3.5 L VQ engine - awesome engine - more torque too that pushes you against the seat.
Turning radius was good.

What I didn't like about the G35:

Gas mileage was obviously not a priority with Nissan.
Interior design was already dated when the car was introduced, IMHO.
Exterior design was o.k. but not as attractive as the TL.
6-speed shifter not as smooth as TL's.

It came down to a question I asked myself: "What would I be happier driving two years from now?" Easy answer at the time: the TL.

If I had to decide between an '07 TL-S and an '07 G35s? That would be tough but I would go with the '07 G35s as Infiniti has really improved on the flaws that made me decide against the G35 two years ago. The really hard comparison will be next year(?) when the 4th Generation TL debuts.

For me it came down to several things, not in any particular order they include:
Better gas mileage.
Better looking exterior (to me).
WAY better looking interior, from materials to ergonomics.
More standard features.
Navigation system in Acura still is the best in the business. (this was the dealmaker)
bluetooth HFL
DVD Audio
Camel leather interior was just so elegant at the time
Choice of colors that appealed to me (4 for Acura, 2 for G35)
Better execution of "luxury sport sedan" in that car fits so many purposes well, looks good, has luxury features, will haul the mail when asked, gets great mileage when you need it to, has impressive technology and gadgets and is fun to drive.

Cant wait for the 09, cuz my lease is up in April of 08!

I was ready to make a deal on a Black/Grey w/ Nav/prem pkg/body kit/rims '06 G35 (my fav car) for $38,000. Get this: b/c of a dispute/encurring lawsuit I have with Sprint (long story short I did study abroad in London, signed up for international, national calling - the whole shebang - They charged me for roaming and wanted to sucker me into paying a $2000 phone bill. I told them to stick it and I'd see them in court... but until THEN - it's on my credit report), Infiniti did not want to take a "chance" on me. The salesperson was GREAT and tried everything he could to sell this car (let's just say he wanted to sell it as much as I wanted to own it), but the manager wasn't hearing any of it. Then I started getting loud on the showroom floor and sying shit like "I live in a large million+ dollar home in Windermere, drive a $64,000 Jaguar and a $60,000 Navigator - and you don't want to approve a sale of $40,000 b/c of THIS?!"

So I said OK... they make a GREAT product that i'd LOVE to have... but if I have to deal with this shit when buying the car - imagine how it'd be when owning one. I said to hell with that and called Acura - told them the story - they called me back in ten minutes saying I was approved n they'd be waiting for me to come by.

Granted, I still love the '06 G35 (I think the '07 is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen) more than my TL... and every time I hear that exhaust note I just wanna carjack the driver... I'm happy with what I've got.

I test drove a G35 Coupe prior to purchasing the TL. The G is a great car performance wise. A lot of fun to drive. And even though it was a coupe, it was slightly more convenient for me than the TL since the back seats fold down and I could throw my bike in there without having to mess around with a rack.

I just couldn't get over the looks of the G, interior look is horrible and the exterior just doesn't do it for me. I know a lot of people love the looks of the car though so that's individual pref. Also the 3.5 liter in the G is a guzzler Seems to parallel V8s in fuel consumption.

Ended up purchasing an 06 TL w/ Aspec wheels because it was so much better looking in every way - inside and out. And it was no slouch in the performance area either with the 6MT, Brembos, etc. Now if those damn rear seats would fold down!

That said....the new G37 is coming out this fall. It seems much better looking than the current G and should be promising. So if you go with G35 Coupe now you're pretty much gonna have a previous gen car right off the bat. Just another consideration...

Exactimundo! I was pretty much "sold" on the G35 until I sat in a TL......the interior of the TL changed my mind quickly..........along with the "bang-for-the-buck" on standard features!

From that pic, it should be fairly easy to do so right now. Go take a look at the g35 coupe and subtract 2 doors.

...oddly enough I think the sedan actually looks better than the coupe this time around.

G35's continue to be heavily discounted where I live. At any given time you can find a load of used G35's on the market. TL's are another story. Used TL's are hard to come by and have a significantly higher resale value. Infiniti heavily advertises and seems to push for every sale. None of the other upscale makes, including Acura, in my market area needs to push their product to get it to sell. Infiniti's here seem not to be valued as an upscale car. In my immediate neighborhood, I've counted 8 Mercedes, 12 BMW, 14 Lexus, 12 Acuras, 10 Audis, 15 Volvos and only 2 Infinitis. I drove a G35 and while I did like the performance, the interior seemed poorly designed. My son commented that the cup holders were not functional and could not hold a tall drink without support. The TL is a much better value for the money, has terriffic performance and has more comfort features.
