Why angel eyes?

I've seen a few posts about angel eye mods and have two questions.
* I thought they were done only to the fog lights; am I wrong and they are also done to the headlights?
* If they are done to the headlights, what effect does it have on the brightness?

Wow. They were originally done to the headlights.
It's a thing BMW started.
No effect on the brightness of the headlights--that's your bulbs that should effect the brightness.
The effect angel eyes have on headlights would be to give it an agressive look--or to serve as a DRL... or too just look good.

* true they were introduced on the 2002 facelifted BMW 5 series. It is also true that there are some aftermarket fog-lights that have also copied the idea and jumped on the bandwagon. It is far more common on aftermarket headlights though.

*It has no effect on the headlights at all. Purely aesthetic. The rings sit on the bezel so they are not in the path of the focused light from the projectors.

OK, I asked because in your post here it looks like the headlights are partially blocked. Just curious.

Yeah I actually had the same question in my mind when I was researching the feasability of the project. If you look closely at the headlamp assembly you'll see that there is about 2-3mm space so the ring can sit there without blocking anything.

Why?

1. It looks AWESOME
2. It makes your TL unique without making it look stupid.

Slight correction, started on the 2001 e39 5 series and served as the front parking lights. They quickly became an identifying que for BMW and such a big hit that they spread through the lines starting w/ the '02 7 series, '06 3 series, etc, etc.

P.S.: Still waiting for this real estate deal to finally come through so I can get my TL-S...

Well, it's your opinion and you're welcome to it.

But if I wanted a BMW wannabe, I'd go find a 325i. That's about as close to as you can get to a *real* BMW and for less than a TL-S.

I just don't see that BMW somehow has exclusive use to a a nice feature. Just because they are the first, doesn't mean they should be the one-and-only.

The new Audi style lights blow away the "angel eyes". I saw a new S5 last week on the freeway and was blow away by the LEDs under the headlights. Very cool looking.

on an Acura TL; i wouldn't do mods such as this. I did on my Civic. But the TL is just too luxurious of a car for me to mess around with. I would rather pay someone else to do it honestly. It does look good when done right.

I'm with tripn on this one. Hear too many stories of them going bad, then you end up driving around with busted angels lookin all ghetto.

I think 99% of the problems are installer error.

Mine are working issue free, 5 months... and they're on every day for 2-3 hours.
(minus the last 2 weeks I been in the new civic of course)...

I got mine installed on my TL-S in December 2006. Till this day, it still turns heads everywhere I go. Great mod to look original, and i wired mine on a completely different switch. I think angel eyes on fogs are simply stupid.

The first 5 pictures in that link is my car, it's weird how it got out and everyone is using it w/o consent, but i don't mind since it's for aziners

I think you haters are crazy. So what BMW did it first, it looks great on our cars.

And I'd have to agree, buy quality parts, install them correctly, and you should have any problems...

Now that shit looks tight!! I don't like angel eyes when there is only one per headlight. Too bad the 04' has a square inside light.

mahara no one heres a hater its a matter of opinion. I personally think it looks cool but no thanks.....any of these aftermarket kits arent high quality. So I dont know where ud find really good high quality aftermarket stuff thats not gonna break or burn out. Anyone could do a good install as long as they take their time. but it doesnt mean the product will last.

I disagree completely. I have a vendor that sells umnitza angel eyes with lifetime warranties that include fading etc. Shoot, i just installed them on my 03 M3 (that year didn't have angel eyes yet).

I see where you're coming with the after market feeling, but i don't blame you. Ebay has tons of that stuff, but there are some brands like umnitza that are high quality. If you think after market is all bad, why do 99% of Aziners mod their cars with aftermarket products? As for installs, TL's have to be customized unlike the m3 angels i stalled, which hooked right on. My housing had to be baked, then siliconed back up and angels had to be glued on.

Angel eyes are just a part of BMW design. You don't see any other stock cars with angel eyes, do you?

It's the same thing as cars having lambo doors, or civics having supra spoilers. Yes they may look good, but that's also just being wannabes.

Honestly, when I look at those mazda 3 or civic with angel eyes and shark fin antenna, I just laugh for their wannabeness (if there's such word). But since a civic and mazda 3 are cheaper cars, they may have incentives to make their cars look BMWish, so their cars may seem more expensive? Then they may feel better about their car.

Now, I think most of us bought a TL not because we couldn't afford a BMW, but because we think TL is a better car or better bang of bucks. TL are IMO in the same class as 3-series.

So we bought a TL because we love it, so why do we want to make it BMWish? That's something I totally don't understand. You don't see BMW owners trying to make their cars look Acura'ish, do you?

I bought an Acura TL because I love the car, and I want to keep a TL a TL.

This is retarded...

I just typed 2 paragraph responding to this... not worth it.

My wannabe BMW angel eyes rule. Best looking and most uniqu mod on the car...
Every BMW may have em... but only a select few TL's have them.

Like any other mod, people do what they want to their car. They reserve, and deserve the right to do that. If an angel-eye mod is a bad look for a luxury car, then why does a luxury car like the BMW come with it in the first place???

Just because Acura didn't establish the precedent, doesn't mean the owners can't adopt it. Somebody had to be first. TLs were not first with BBK either! I doubt any of the naysayers would have balked at buying the TL if it came with the angel-eye kit before they purchased it, but AFTER BMW already had it on their models. And mind you, the BMW models that come with the angel-eyes are not cheap!

I have angel-eyes waiting to be installed. But, I want to take a look at the Audi lights that Jazz talked about. Stella may wanna-be like that S5...

Well I like the angel eyes, but the audi thing may fall into the category people where saying above. It would be TOO much. Still looks great though, so until someone trys it on our cars, I won't lean either way....

I would think both would be pretty difficult to pull off though...

I bought an Acura TL because I love the car, and I want to keep a TL a TL.

Now, that is YOUR opinion... just like when you said IMO.

People can do what the fuck ever with their car.. they paid for it, they mod it, they drive it. What the fuck does it matter what you care?

There is a TL out there with Lambo doors and its sitting on 22 inch rims. He also has skulls all over the engine bay... You think your opinions are going to make him paint the entire car black, put the stock rims on, and remove the lambo kit? HELL THE FUCK NO! Don't get mad because others have the nerve to try something new to make their carsstand out more... maybe you cannot mod anything; therefore, YOU get mad when someone gets something done that YOU may like... but YOU cannot get the job done...

I don't tell you to eat green apples when you like red apples...

^ Whoa man, your the one getting mad. He is mearly stating the semi-obvious. But he has a fundamental flaw in his logic. This is an "enthusiast" website for Acuras. Meaning we all are pretty much here to discuss our cars and the mods/maintenance/issues that go with it. Just because a company did it first, doesn't mean that is the only make you can do it on...

Didn't Honda come out with the EL gauges first, then Lexus immediately ripped it off and used it in their cars? It happens all the time, the point is that automakers as a whole do things, duplicate their own version, and call it their own. Why? For the greater good of the industry.

Personally the angel eyes look hot, and they can serve a purpose.

I agree with him though, TLs I would put in the 3-series class.

Sorry if it came out as anger, haha. When I talk, I scream, as Tupac would say. It is how I get a point across. Let me tell you what Tupac once said, "If a man breaks into your house, and you are home. You don't ask nicely," Excuse me, what are you doing in my house?" but instead, you give him a low toned "HEY! WHAT YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?!"

It's just a method to win arguments =P

Hey, can you show me how to do what you did? As for pictures, that'd be awesome. I really want to do the Audi thing but couldn't get myself to open up th headlights. My lady and I have seen the S5 rolling around, and those DRLs are plain beautiful. GOTTA HAVE THEM ON OUR S!!

If you guys really don't care what others think about your mod, then some of you won't get upset over me calling you BMW wannabes.

So hey, I love to keep my Acura TL, an Acura TL -- not a BMW. Some people may find my opinion funny, just like I find people to do angel eyes mod funny. But will I get upset over what other think of my opinion? No!

So if you spent countless hours and money making angle eyes possible and love them, LOVE THEM! Why would you care what many other people and I think?

Because like another thread I read earlier, it isn't the whiners who come on here who create a bad atmosphere, it is the ones doing all the bitching about little things. Don't voice your opinion if it's not going to help a situation.

Like I mentioned above, I don't tell you to eat green apples when you like red apples!
