chrysler 300 is slightly faster at lower end speeds, after 100 though the TL catches up..i know because i've raced like 4 of them.

true...slightly faster 1/4 mile time but then again slightly slower 0-60...i wonder if it's due to the LSD?

does the new accord 6mt have an LSD?

that right...i believe they have the same engine as the charger r/t...b/c when i raced my friends r/t, he got the jump on me but we were really close until like 80-85 when i started pulling

no it doesn't come with LSD unfortunantly.

Simple:

- Less weight (manual transmission weighs less)
- More power transfers from the engine to the wheels (Manual transmissions are more efficient)
- Better gear ratios AND an extra gear

Many posts have referred to the manual transmission's advantage in gear ratios over those of the automatic. Well here are the facts concerning this topic (note: the final gear ratio in any given gear is that gear's ratio times the final drive ratio). The following info is for '05 TL's and is rounded to the nearest 1/100th.

------ MANUAL -------- AUTOMATIC
--------------------------------------------------
1. 3.93 -> 12.93 ---- 2.56 -> 11.34
2. 2.48 -> 8.16 ---- 1.55 -> 6.87
3. 1.70 -> 5.59 ---- 1.02 -> 4.52
4. 1.25 -> 4.94 ----- .67 -> 2.97
5. .98 -> 3.22 ----- .48 -> 2.13
6. .77 -> 2.53

Final drive ratio: MT = 3.29 AT = 4.43

As you can see, the automatic has a MUCH lower final drive than does the manual. But the transmission gear ratios do favor the manual and once you get past first gear, they are all close ratio (first gear is NOT a close ratio gear which actually means that the manual is NOT a close ratio transmission).

Now if we take this a step further and multiply the final drive ratio at a given gear times the maximum advertised engine torque, we can see how this all affects the accelerative thrust between the two transmissions excluding all other factors. Keep in mind that the torque actually delivered to the drive wheels will be a little less due to parasitic losses. Torque figures are rounded to whole integers.

MANUAL AUTOMATIC
---------------------------------
1. 3077 ----- 2699
2. 1942 ----- 1635
3. 1330 ----- 1076
4. 1176 ------- 707
5. 766 ------- 507
6. 602

The fact that the manual transmission delivers higher multiplied torque numbers to the drive wheels, plus everything else that has already been pointed out, are the reasons the manual TL is going to be quicker that the automatic.

Oh yeah. The one element I left out that will really affect all of this is the driver. The numbers I reported are just that.. numbers. A driver's ability to take advantage of a car's inherent abilities is what is going to make or break good E.T.'s and a drag race.

Assuming the driver's of both cars know what they're doing and the cars are stock and in decent operating tune, the manual should beat the automatic every time. Throw in a few unknowns and/or bumbles and this can and probably will change.
