Who travels less than 10 miles a day??

will be moving to somewhere close to my office, which i figure i will be commuting roughly 6 miles a day round trip, currently i am traveling 20~22 miles day while averaging 21mpg (according to the mpg thingy)....it's mostly highway, but it's always during rush hour....

i am pretty sure mpg will go down after i move altho the distance is closer now, but ideally anyone has a idea what is my mpg is gonna be like??

(it's why i ride a bike..if you live within 9 miles from your work, take public transport and/or a bike).

depends on the day for me....but....in one direction to one office it's about 14 miles round trip...avg 18-19mpg going avg of 25 mph mostly suburbs. this is with a roof rack. so you might get 1-2 mpg more with a naked roof (never had a naked roof for my TL until now since the roof repair and paint). i'll know more when i drive my car more without a rack on it. you could always just get a bicycle.

My daily commute is 9 miles round trip and I average 21 MPG with most of it on base at 25-35 MPH. I feel it could be a little better since my ss averages about 18-20 as long as I keep my foot out of it

i think riding a bicycle for 6 miles/day will still be a hassle for me, i dont wanna end up exhausted upon arriving the office....lol

I will be happy if i can still average in low 20s (since i already am).....i thought i might end up averaging 10~12mpg....

and why the fuck did all the sudden the gas went up again??? i paid $4.10/gal for Chevron Premium 2 days ago in my area, now i really miss the $3.79/gal 2 months ago

My job is just over 3 miles from my house. I was thinking about taking my bike last year but I will have to ride at night which doesn't comfort me. Maybe ill try it this year.

I get 17-19 MPG and my commute is about 11 miles roundtrip. I gave up trying to get better MPG lol. On the highway I get 30.....once I got 35 for a trip that lasted 220 miles. In the city though this car sucks when it comes to MPG.

Campus and work are about a mile away from home, but damn are there a lot of stop signs to and from. I average 14-15 mpg pure city. If I add in a trip to Costco one town (~8 mi) over, I can get 18-20 mpg.

On a side note, premium gas here has hit $4.19 per 9/10 gal with no sign of going down any time soon...

you really think 6 miles on a bike is a long distance?? that's a short run for me. a short ride is 60 miles.

honestly i would cycle to work, if i didnt' fear for my life since there is NO safe route to get there (at least to one of my offices).

you'll probably hover around 17-18 depending on how much stop and go. and yeah....premium here is just under $4/gallon.

My house is exactly 5.0 miles from work... no highway, just backroads with a few stop signs, a roundabout, a couple of lights, and rarely any traffic that causes more than a 2-3 minute delay.

It takes me 10 minutes to get to work. I make 2 round trips a day as I go home for lunch. On the weekends, I take my MDX anywhere I need to go, so these numbers are strictly based on my home/work commute.

I get exactly 17 MPG and a full tank lasts me ~220 miles (2 work weeks) until the gas light comes on (which at that point, it takes me 13 gallons to fill up).

To put it in perspective doing the same routine in my:
'09 Fit: a tank of gas also last me 2 weeks with an average of 26 MPG and ~9 gallons to fill up.
'10 TL SH-AWD: Roughly the same as my TL-S, but i get about another 17-18 miles since the tank is about a gallon bigger.

My work place is 2 miles from my place. I will hit 4 stop signs and 2 lights. 7 minute drive. I get about 12 mpg. Yes, 12 mpg.
I try to limit driving to work, but sometimes it's necessary.

10 miles round trip for me. When I had my '05 with aftermarket 19" wheels, I was averaging 16mpg. Now that I have the S with stock wheels, I'm getting 17mpg. I'm sure it'll go way down when I upgrade the wheels again. fml

I walk to work. It'a been this way for 9 months. The car stays in the garage all day, less vulnerable to bad weather storms, it stays cleaner and longer, it keeps the miles down, it helps retain value of your car, costs less for gas, prolongs the life of your car, less personal stress from driving in traffic, and it free's up personal time especially compared to someone who drives 15 to 30 minutes one way. I also save money from not having to pay to park downtown since (I work downtown.) and walking burns more calories. The bad part is, my wallet is getting fat

I drive 2 miles a day to work. 4 miles a day total. All LA City driving. Stop/Go/Stop/Go I'm sure you all know the feeling. Anyhow, I got 12/13 mpg and I don't look any longer. Unless I am on a longer trip on the wknds freeway driving. It makes me sad to see that 12/13mpg. But over the past wknd I drove over 400 miles averaged 60mph w/around 26mpg. That's a lot better!

But you are only driving .6 miles!!! Thats a huge savings. What about those miles you saved? Why does anyone care about MPG when you cut the total miles down 75-90%? haha

My commute is 12 miles round trip. All back roads. On the way to work, there is one stop sign and one traffic light. On the way home, there are three stop signs and one traffic light. I average 26 MPG, 27 MPH and fill up roughly every 17 calendar days. There were 26 days between my last two fill ups.

For my DD/RepMobile (not the TL), on average, not even close.

Since mid-Nov 2003, my daily average is 78.32 miles per day (365.25 days per year or 2754 days thru Jan 2012).

My max was 161 miles per day for the month of Jan 2007 (31 days); my min was 0.83 miles per day for the month of Nov 2011 (30 days).

(I have to log monthly miles for tax purposes for the car those miles were driven on. That's why I have that data.)

The '07 TL is at about 33 miles per day since new.
The '02 TL is at about 28 miles per day since new.

Chad05TL - i completely agree and i am happy about not putting alot of miles on the car and keeping the value up.
turbo_oxide - i know its crazy, but i like to come home for lunch too and walking home and back would take too much of my lunch break. On top of all that i live in Cleveland right next to the lake so the weather can change drastically in a short period of time.
i rode my bike a couple times last summer but thats a little weird in a suit

With a round trip of about 5 miles per day, give or take a few extra for errands, we average about 20-22MPG. It doesn't give the engine enough time to truly warm up, and the car never can shift into 5th to make it more economical. Then again, out TL has less than 54k and it's an '06 22k of those miles were from the first owner before we bought it late 2007.
