So far:

--DVD-A discs--
Crowded House (debut album) - excellent
Eagles - Hotel California - stunning
Donald Fagan - Nightfly - razor sharp clarity
Sting - Sacred Love - different mix than CD - less punchy bass, nice

--DTS disks--
Sting - Ten Summoners Tales - average mix, newbie to 5.1 mixing?

For the newbies: www.highfidelityreview.com has great disk reviews.

Let's see.........

Beck: Sea Change
Grateful Dead: Workingman's Dead
Grateful Dead: American Beauty
Beach Boys: Pet Sounds
Steely Dan: Gaucho
Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out

By the way, I have an extra copy of Beck's Sea Change that I have not opened yet. I accidently bought it at Borders when I had already ordered it online a couple of days earlier.

If anyone wants it, send me a PM and we can work out the details.

I haven't found any one place with a great selection. Here are a few places to look:

http://www.digitaleyes.net/dvdaudio.cfm
http://www.sendmemovies.com/
http://dvdplanet.com/main_dvdaudio.asp
http://www.cduniverse.com/
http://www.videoflicks.com/
http://www.luckytruck.com/
http://www.rhino.com/

You can also try places like BestBuy, Amazon, and the other typical retailers.

Well, my TL is supposed to be built on Tuesday. In great anticipation of its arrival, I have acquired:
ELP: Brain Salad Surgery (their Works tour was my first date with my wife)
Diana Krall: When I look in your eyes
Blue Man Group: Audio
Zubin Mehta: Mahler: Symphony No.2 "Resurrection"
Yes: Fragile

An eclectic mix. I have listened to the first two on my Home Theater system using the DTS tracks. Looking forward to hearing it in the TL.

(Also got the Sony Ericsson T610 Bluetooth phone ready to go).

Beatles - The White Album is staggeringly-good in DVD-A. Paul's bass soars across the rear of the car on "Martha My Dear"...has to be heard to be believed. You'll have new-found respect for "Savoy Truffle". "Revolution 9" sounds worse.

You HAVE to pick up Linkin Park Reanimation DVD-A.
Don't even think twice about it, just play that bad boy.

I brought it to the dealer to test the sound system and now the sales guy using the disc to sell the car.

I've got just two right now:

Doobie Bros - "The Captain and Me"
Chicago - "5"

Gonna grab Eagles "Hotel California" sometime this week.

Have to admit though......my plain old cd copies of James Taylor's "Greatest Hits 2" and Walton's "Belshazzar's Feast" sound VERY good too.

I have not gotten my car yet and was wondering if you guys can really hear the difference between the DVD-A and a regular CD in the TL stereo.

Absolutely!! The difference is astounding in my opinion. I have a cd and the same DVD-A disc. The difference is very distinct. I'm hearing sounds out of the music I never knew were there.

The DVD Audio portion of this system is amazing. Of course, it all depends on what discs you listen to in the first place.

I'm calling BS on this one unless you can provide a link. I've never seen or heard of ANY Beatles DVD-A's....

I've stopped after I bought Queen "Night at the Opera" and Fleetwood Mac "Rumors". The DVD-As sound good, but not that much better than the regular CDs to justifiy paying the tremendous price difference.

Also, I find what one of the critics said to be absolutelly true: you can't tell the difference between DVD-A and regular CD while driving, because the noise will drown out the differences.

I think that this will be a personal decision. I am quite attached to my home theater and have been a proponent of 5 channel audio for the past few years. I find the DVD-A and DTS discs to be quite a treat, and especially in a car.

DVDs vs CDs

Here's my list of DVD-A and DTS discs so far:
Eagles - Hotel Calif (superb)
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (also superb)
Diana Krall - Love Scenes (would buy anything available by her)
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors (very good)
Steve Miller Band - Fly Like an Eagle (awsome)
Doobie Bros - Captain and Me (pretty good)
Sinatra at the Sands (very good)
Buena Vista Social Club (very good)
Sammy (Hagar) and Wabos - (save your money)

Looking for:
More Diana Krall
Jackson Browne - Running on Empty
Eric Clapton & BB King - Ridin with the King
?? Stevens(?) - Flamenco a Go-go
DVD-As not any better than CDs at driving speeds?? BS!! You're obviously not taking advantage of the volume dial!!
Support this format! Listen to them on your home theater system too - some sound even better in the home acoustics.

No comparison!!

While you're waiting for your TL, get a couple of DVD-A and/or DTS discs. If you have a home theater system and 5.1 speaker set-up, listen to them at while you're waiting. The difference between 2-channel sound/CD resolution and 5.1 sound and DVD-A resolution is like night and day. You will defiinitely hear the difference...your wife will probably not (ha-ha).

Your senses are in for a treat when you get your TL and insert a DVD-A. Heck, even the demo disc is great.

I was under impression that you can't hear the intended 5.1 sound by just playing DVD-A disks in a DVD player. I thought only a special DVD-A player could play those.

You are correct wrt to DVD-A, you must have a player that is DVD-audio capable. As for DTS, nearly all DVD players and home theater decocers will allow these to work, again they must be DTS capable, but that is not unusual.

I have a $89 Toshiba DVD player from Costco that plays my DVD-As just fine. I believe most newer DVD players are capable of playing DVD-Audio. Hopefully, you are also equipped with a decent 5.1 receiver and speaker system...otherwise, you won't get the full benefit of DVD-A at home.

1. Frank Sintra - Sinatra at the Sands - disappointing
2. Outkast - Stankonia - 7.5 out of 10
3. Usher - 8 out of 10

I just recently ordered the Blue Man Group. I am really looking forward to the DVD. If it is anything like track 17 "time to start" on the acura demo dvd, I will be thrilled.

I just hope this technology takes off soon. The currently selection of DVDs out on the market is poor.
