Who else hates the Acura Doors??

Has anyone else noticed this when you open your door it always shuts back on your leg or your face!!!

Well today I was getting back into my car after grabn a burrito and a soda and i swung the door open and it closed right back on my arm making me drop my soda!!

This car is the only car that if you dont make sure the door stops in one of two open positions half way or full way it slams back closed on you what crap!!!:thumbsdow!

Sorry I had to vent because it always does this to me and any of my unsuspecting passengers who get taken out by my self closing doors from hell!!

BMW and Mercedes have self stopping doors at any positions hoefully the 4G has this feature as well now.

LOL

It does happen.
The doors are heavy.

I always open the door slowly to ensure it stops in one of the two positions.

I always wondered the same thing, I thought it was just mine. I had a 2008 and 2007 Accord and don't remember this happening. Also have you noticed that when you want it to close on its own it doesn't.

+1

I can't give it a nice little push and walk away knowing I closed it.

I always have to make sure it's closed by using some force because the hinges aren't that loose =(

lol tell the fat chick you are bringing home to get out first lol

the reason the doors do that is because the road is crowned and the car is tilted slightly to the passenger side. Park on a level parking lot and your doors should not close on you as they are not spring loaded.

^ dude no fat chicks in my ride buddy haha

doesnt matter i can park level or not if you dont open the door to the exact holding position it swings closed and the momentum carries it closed... just got my moms today when i took her over to the rental car place it hit her in the side as she was getting out and she was like "whats up with your doors??"

lol

Same shit happens to me. I always have to get inside and stop the door with my foot, right down on the left corner of the door.

thats too easy im used to other cars that you dont have to worry about a door back handing you as you exit or enter the vehicle.... my pops has a CLS 550 my friend has a BMW 750 and my moms has a new vette none of which try to murder you either by door or by trunk

Same here. I open it with my hand and let go. No problems, at least not on level ground. I don't get into the habit of swinging it open because you never know what you may have missed. I've gotten and given 0 door dings in 93,000 miles this way.

I'm used to cars with much heavier doors. The kind that would take off a finger lol. The TL has light doors IMO. You can usually adjust the way they're weighted. I've never tried it on the TL but every car I've owned has a way to adjust fom where it's too easy to close and wants to close itself or where you have to really yank on it to close it. I actually like mine better now that they're filled with dynamat and foam. The doors have a much more solid thunk Mercedes style when you close them.

Really, I think we're asking the car to do EVERYTHING for us with zero effort on our part.

This issue was my second biggest complaint about my '05.

The doors are heavy but the door checker isn't strong enough to hold it. My '02 RL has heavy doors too and doesn't have this problem

I would want to murder someone too. What I'm talking about is people who wildly swing their doors open to the point that anything in range is going to get destroyed including their own door.

Maybe there is an issue with yours and other TLs with the balance of the door. Can you clarify something? If you open the door on level ground to one of the stops and let go, does it try and close on you? I'm 99% sure there are adjustments for every car. I'm used to doors that weigh 60lbs so the TL seems super light to me. I still have a habit of sticking a leg out behind me anytime I have to get something from inside of the car. Getting your leg caught between a heavy door and the door sill isn't fun.

Dude, slowly open your door to 1 of the 2 positions. Exit the car. Gently push the door back shut. Voila.

Seems like my doors are the only ones on this forum that actually WORK the way they were designed

I find that even if you push open the door a little past position 1 then the door has enough force to close back on you while you're trying to get out.

Of course the best way to avoid this "problem" is to make sure it goes to position 1 or 2, but our passengers don't know that

I have no problems with our doors... I can't stand GM doors though. They never stay where you put them, they don't open very far, and they sound like crap when you close them.

I like my friend's Mercedes CL65 AMG. The doors don't just pivot on one hinge. The entire door moves away from the car and pivots. You get a lot more room to enter the car without the door swinging any wider.

Picture the front of the door moving away from the car, not just the rear.

I do the same thing in my TSX.. the door doesn't shut on it's own but I picked up a habit of using my foot to push my door completely open..

but I do get half my bruises from the TL's doors closing on me..

Innovation at its best. Maybe it's the people I surround my self with. All of my friends/family are cautious at opening the doors so it's never shoved open to be sprung back into legs or whatever. Coming from GMC Sierra doors, I'll take the TL anyday over those without complaints

First time I saw this type of hinge was on an SC430, loved it.

My girlfriend hates the doors... she claims my car hates her. I do like having a nice solid car and knowing that the doors are always going to shut all the way, but having to explain to every front seat passenger why my door is attacking them gets old

It can come in handy though... if I'm in a hurry I'll push the door open, get out while it's trying to figure out if it's gonna stay on position one, and then get out of the way as it decides not to stay open. Self-closing door!

I actually like the automatic closing doors. But yeah I have had it close on my leg before right after playing ball and that didn't feel too good.

But other than that I like it, I can just touch the door after getting out and it closes.

Now that I think of it, yes .. I was really annoyed with my old 3G's doors ..

My Accord is no different, the problem is magnified because of the coupes doors being really long.

It's handy for when you're caught in the rain without and umbrella, you just open the door fast and jump in... Door closes itself... :thumbsup

If I ask nicely to not do that... she ignores it. And if I turn up the tone a little, she gets mad that I "yelled at her".

I don't hate the doors, but then I'm used to them. Ms1995hoo always complains about them because she's short and she has trouble reaching far enough to open the door to the point where it stays open, especially if I park on a hill. You'd think after almost six years she'd have come up with a system like moving the seat forward before getting out. I just save my breath, though.

They are so damn heavy and never stay open all the way unless you bend out and really push on them. I've had them swing close on my leg a couple of times over the years! Man did that hurt!

Funny thing is, the doors on my TL are too heavy and the ones on my Maxima are too light. I have the opposite problem on the Maxima. The doors never shut properly and I always have to really push them close!
