ALL_CITY is great for getting these lights off of ebay. I bought the lights and 2 days later already received them. Been busy but finally got to installing them. this is the first time i did anything to the car besides installing leds to the interior so i was a bit "nervous". after taking the clips off of the trunk liner, i then realized how easy everything is. im not new to modding but this is my first car over 5K.lol used to civics, accords, and intergras. This was a VERY VERY simple mod and i know im late as hell since everybody been doing this since 05 but i just got my 05 WDP so i got alot of catching up to do.

just a FYI in a lot of states it is ILLEGAL to modify the stock lighting of cars so just becareful with the intensity of the light.

I sound like a broken record, but you need to put lights in the trunk... Its the most useful mod I have done to my car... There are alot of things that look cool, there are some thinks that make the car better... But this one is useful.
Being able to see in your trunk is useful. All the other lights are for everyone else to enjoy , but this this one is for me... (the auto window roll up module is good too)

Thanks for the write up!!! Just installed mine almost exactly how you did the write up! Only thing I changed was the wiring.. I went to the junkyard and found a plug to plug into the existing license plate plug.. so I connected all my wires to this plug.. and plugged them together. So now it is like factory.. Just unplug when I need to change the bulb.
Here are my pics.. Looks so awesome now!

wow.. all i can say is unbelievable its incredible how much of a difference it is LED to Cold Cathode. I just did mine and i fell in love instantly and am very happy I decided to slap it in there. Easy stuff, and it really pays off. Anyone who is contemplating doing this mod, do it, you will not regret it.

I JUST placed my order for some CCs. Thanks for all the info and write-ups in this thread...
I do notice that some setups (yeah I know it may just be the exposure of the camera) are particularly bright. I don't necessarily want to illuminate the ground with my license plate lights as depicted by many pictures in this thread... so I'm wondering what kind of effect you would get off of one 12" cathode as opposed to two?
Anyone out there using just one cathode? Let's see it!
Cheers

Ok guys, i've been thinking of doing this for awhile now....I have no experience in modding anything and the only time I took my car apart was to replace the cabin air filter?
How difficult will this be to a complete newbie??? I have no experience with wires and that's the only part that's scaring me

The wiring is very simple..the kit comes with everything you need to install it..I took my time in doing this mod and it took no more than an hour..
This link tells you perfectly how do it, and what part you need.
http://www.acuraclubsa.com/DIY/catho...odeTLhowto.htm
take the trunk apart, get to the license plate lights. disconnect the harness from the lights, and take the license plate cover that has the reverse lights attached to it out. take the license plate lights housing out, and install the cathode tube lights.
cheers..

Hey guys.
Is this the correct connector?
Male Disconnect
Also, what is the blue thing in the image (connecting the wires)?
Is it this?

Bringing back the thread, but I have a few questions... I have replaced these lights twice in maybe the past 16 months. Slowly, they burn out, one by one and eventually fade or turn red. Is there any way to prevent this? I assume its because they are being exposed to water, dirt, dust etc. I cut out a piece of plastic and use 3m tape for the covers, also tapes the edges with electrical tape to make sure there were no seepage points. Is there a more effective way of protecting the cold cathodes, so they dont age so quickly?

The 12" ones don't work for everyone's setup. I have wendy's camera installed and the bolts prevent me from running 12" cathodes. I run 4" cathodes. Actually I run three 4" cathodes on each side mounted in a triangle formation using 3 inverters with each inverter running a bulb on each side (serious fail over, lol). I very carefully drill exhaust holes in the plastic tube so the heat can escape. This has prolonged the life of the cathodes for me but they still do eventually burn out. I have an extra set that I keep on hand already built for when I do have to swap them (which it is about time to).
I've been thinking of moving over to LEDs but have to figure out if it is possible to modify (cut a slot) into the stock lenses like I did for the customer ones I made to allow the video camera cable to enter the trunk. I don't want to cut into the trunk more than I have so far.
As for another place to buy the cathodes check out performance-pcs.net. I'm a computer modder and they have stuff no one else has. The cathodes there may not be the cheapest but I believe they sleeve the cables on them for you. Here is the direct link for the 4 inch cathodes:

deathmetal, how did you secure the plastic cover? Did you just use 3m double sided foam tape? I keep finding that it eventually falls off and lets dirt in, I need to find a better method.

Does anybody know how wide the opening is for the lights? I recently bought a LCD protector glass for my camera and it came with adhesive around the glass.. I think I might just purchase 2 of these protectors and stick them at the openings.
