Where did you get your windows tinted? (For TL Owners in Toronto, Canada)

Lookin to tint my windows on my 06 TL (RBP).

Mainly to prevent heat and sun from the interior in the summers.

Curious to where peepz from the 416/905 area got their windows tinted.

Did you get moleskin?
Cost?
% tint?

Thanks.

I got my tint done at FX Auto in Markham (McCowan & Hwy 7). I got ceramic tint on all windows except the windshield (obviously). Cost me $275 total and they did a pretty good job. They use FormulaOne tint and the guy I spoke with (Wayne) said he's done plenty of TLs and never uses moleskin. He told me if it scratched at all to bring it back and they'd replace it. Its been 1.5yr so far and no scratches at all.

That makes me nervous. Everything I've read says that you should use the moleskin. I don't want the hassle of having to go back again if it scratches.

I was going to ask this same question as well. Anybody have any places in the brampton/mississauga area?

I was concerned too but I have a few friends who had their cars done there without problems so I trusted them. 1.5-2yrs later and no scratches at all. I'm not concerned.

I got ceramic tint since it is supposed to provide the same level of heat rejection as metallic, but doesn't effect navi or radio reception.

I got mine done at the dealership when I picked the car up before I bought it. Less than $400 if I can remember right. A little more but I couldn't be bothered with going around to places and asking for quotes. I'd spend more money than i'd save by looking around.

got mine done at formula One, in newmarket (905) ceramic w/ moleskin for 400, they used formula One tint obviously as that's all they will deal with, they've been around town here for close to 30 years. They did a great job, tinted under the 3rd brake light, and on the rear quarter glass got it right up to the end of the glass unlike some other places. they also got the tint very close to the top of all the other windows. All in all an excellent job was done and i think it was worth it. I got 35% on my NBP.

I too was planning on getting 35% tint on my black tl. Do you have any picks of your car on the forums so I can compare and see what it looks like?

To "The Dougler"

I noticed you got your TL from Acura In Markham. Did you inquire about whether they could do the tinting?

Also, when you went to Formula One, did they install the moleskin for you? Thanks.

Thanks Dougler.

I really like the tint. I think I may want it a bit darker. On my old car I had 20 on the back and 35 on the sides and it looked good. But that was a 2 door so it looked perfect. I might do the same here.. still deciding. But thanks for the picks.

As for the Zaino... I LOVE IT too... I zaino'd my red accord last year and the thing looked perfect. I plan to do the same this year when the time comes.

Did formula one provide the moleskin or did you have to order it and give it to them to install?

No, i never asked them about the tinting, i bought it used and didnt really think about it then.

Regarding the moleskin, it's a special request thing, if you tell them to do it they will but otherwise they wont.

Maybe it's a sub-contracted company that did my tint, but regardless, it was done on site because I saw the guy working in the garage putting the tints on my car and other cars.

Audioheaven

Really great service and reputable. In the very least, definitely call these guys before you book anywhere else.

The dealer tints actually call the after-market shops and have them come by and do them all in one day. They pay the after-market guys a couple bills, and then charge it out to the customer at the standard $4bill range and still pocket the extra cash.

Hmm.. I might just give them a call.. I just checked their website out at www.audioheaven.ca.

I like how they specify on their tinting page that they don't tuck the rubbers and they remove the door panels.

I might book an appointment with them to just do my tint and my stereo all at once after I get my spoiler put on.

I want to check if they also do moleskin and non metallic tint as well just in case.

Saw this pic in their gallery too...

Just got off the phone with audioheaven and I was talking to Jeff (the owner). He seems like a really cool guy. He answered all my questions about tints and my stereo that I had and was really cool about it all.

The price was under 200$ for my 05 TL and I think it included the mole skin.

The only thing I didn't like was that he either had metalic based tints or dyed tints. I don't want the metal because of the GPS and I'm not a fan of dyed tints because of the fade. So I'm not sure if I will get it tinted there. I may go there to get my stereo done though as he made me feel really comfortable with that.

I'm still waiting on my dealership to give me a call back. They gave me a ruff quote yesterday that sounded good but he still has to get back to me.

Hi Knockz,

please tell me the quote you get from the dealer. Maybe if we get a few ppl together, they are willing to bring the price down?

I know there is a place in Mississauga called 3M Trimline. But not sure how well they do their tinting.

Got the Clear Bra from them. Good stuff.

The dealership called me back and quoted me 300$ to do the tints. Like others have said before they just call in somebody to come do it for them. However the guy couldn't answer my questions about type of tint or mole skin install. I told him to ask the person doing it and call me back with the info. Hopefully he will call today.

2. Actually realizes that our cars need moleskin (and knows what it is)

3. Takes off door panels to do proper job

4. FULL rear quarter window was done, slides tint inder plastic looks great.

5. best price in the world and canadian for me $240 lifetime warranty

6. great service and great guys....have DANNY do it he is the best.....when i was there he let me watch the whole process. also stayed longer watched him to a 2007 bmw 550 2007 x5 4.4

7. they normally only deal with dealers High end so they know what there doing........

driving to toronto to tint

Hey fellas, Thx 4 all the suggestions. I am thinking about calling thornhill tints to talk to danny. sounds like a good place with a good price. Unfortunately, there are no shops here in Ottawa that deal with non-metallic based films so i am forced to look elsewhere.

anyother experiences in the T.O area?

Quick question. What kind of tint was it? Was it a dyed tint film? Do you have Navi in your car?

Hi 1chiroTL, so are there any deeper tech. specs u can give us with this sunguard tint?

I know 3M tints have some pretty good UV and heat protection from da sun.

Much thx.

sorry no further data on that tint. I did it more for the look rather then function of the tints. Sounds strange but life is to short for me to start picking out the ingredients of tints and stuff. You can call the guys that did mine maybe they may know. good luck!!

The car looks great with tints.......thats all that matters to me

They probably round the 32 up and call it 35. But I'd go with the 32. I wish they even had something like a 28.

How many of you who posted on this thread are actually thinking of getting windows tinted at this place that sells sun-gard in Thornhill?

And when?

Maybe we can do a group think and get a bit of a discount?

I was thinking mid April when the weather starts reaching 10 degrees +

On my old accord coupe I had 20 on the back and 35 on the sides. I didn't even remember until I found the receipt last month. You would never have noticied.

However on my TL I'm getting 35 all around. I don't think mixing it would look as good on a 4 door.
