Where to Buy Synchromesh Friction Modified......Online

Seriously, what is the deal with GMSMFM? All the dealers in my area (denver) only have the regular synchromesh (a couple claimed that friction modified doesn't exist, pshh), and I am struggling to find it online. Anyone have any insights?

Thanks so much man. By the way, I am saving a bundle using this site vs what the dealer wanted.

Thanks, that's still $3/quart cheaper even with shipping than what the local dealers want.

I know I should trust you, but I'm amazed that there's somewhere that still sells this online. You are 100% positive that this is the friction modified? Because the stupid site lists it with a generic description "OEM Catalog fluid."

I just don't want to throw away money if I get the junk that I don't need.

Thanks!

Because the part #12377916 is for the friction modified.
unless GM changes the way they catalog, part #12377916 will always be the GM syncromesh friction modified.

^as you can see here, it has part #12377916

also, all you're doing is a drain and fill. it takes 2.3 U.S. Quarts, which is 2 quarts 10 ounces rounded. so pick up 3 bottles of this bad boy.

Just wanted to make sure, because i thought maybe they would recatalog and that part number would represent whatever they replace the friction modified with, if it is officially discontinued.

I ordered 9 quarts for 3 cars, so I wanted to double check, because $90 would be a terrible waste to have crappy fluid come.

Did you ever order the fluid? I just thought I'd ask before I placed an order. I wanted to be sure to get the right stuff.

I made my order 2 weeks ago from that site. They ship quite quickly and needless to say my order for 3 qrts has since arrived and I'm now just waiting for a break in my schedule to change out the trans fluid.

I heard that too, and any other members please correct me if I'm thinking the wrong "new" fluid.

There is a newer transmission fluid that Acura/Honda uses, but there are threads that can be found on this board along with other Honda boards where the feedback is simply its an improvement but it doesn't perform as well as the GM Friction Modified. Seems most stand behind the gm friction modified fluid. Hence I opted to purchase it too.

That is my experience as well. I switched over to the GM-FM MTF a couple months ago. Prior to that I used the Honda improved MTF, and prior to that the old Honda MTF. The GM stuff is the best easily.

I totally agree with that...went with the NEW honda stuff last year, and recently did a short shifter and new shiftknob...didn't like how notchy it was...changed to GM stuff...will NEVER go back.

Paid $44 for 3 out the door at the local dealer.

If you are doing 3 cars...you can buy 7 bottles...2.3 x 3 is 6.9

Thanks for the site info. I purchased from that site and yes, it's listed only as "FLUID". Nice description . Anyway, took the chance and sure enough, the right stuff came. Ordered 6 bottles. They took about 2 weeks to get here but it was over Christmas so that's understandable.

Good price on it. $8.83 plus shipping. Came out to about $10 per bottle.

I've noticed a slight difference in shifting. Some of the "notchiness" is gone. Never had the 3rd gear slip to begin with so can't comment on that.

Just FYI, a little late, but better late than never.

I did order 9 quarts from here. 3 for my TL, 3 for my Integra and 3 for the next TL change. It was the right stuff, and made a remarkable difference. And I was a skeptic. Since the change (about 2 months), I have not had a single "lockout" or "popout" of third gear, where I used to get both on a daily basis.

The shifts are so much smoother, I really am amazed. This stuff will not last as long as the newer fluids, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice protection out of laziness, so I'll try to keep using this stuff. Hope they still sell it in the future.

Order now!

What is your change interval going to be you think?
I purchased mine today and am just waiting for a day off. And then that day off needs to not be cold.

I read on another thread about a GM Full Synthetic trans fluid that's supposed to be better than the GMSFM. Does anyone have experience with this? I just bought a 2007 TL-S and it's having the third gear issues. I don't mind spending the extra money for a full synthetic if it will do as good a job as the holy grail GMSFM and last longer.
