Shouldn't it be reusable? Usually aftermarket CAIs use reusable filters and you can clean those.

I'd change it around 20k miles/2 years. Depends where you live/drive though.

 

is it paper?- 1 year
foam over wire mesh? clean and reoil annually
K&N ? clean and reoil every 1-2 years

heavy dust, like construction areas on your daily drive- will lower these times
Ck your cabin filter at the same time- you need fresh air too!
