When did you replace your front brake pads (Type S Brembos)?
I took my car in for 15K service. They told me my front brembo pads needed to be replaced at 17.5K miles. I was also told the pads will only last at most 20K miles - is this true?
Thanks in advance.

True enough.
There are a number of threads on this issue. A lot of people change the OE Brembo pads at ~20 - ~25k. Some sooner, myself included; changed at 17.5k.
Others last longer; a few in excess of 40k miles.
Depends on how you drive I guess.

Why is everyone changing their pads if they have a lot of material left?
BTW: Mine were replaced under TSB (squealing) at about 22k. I still have plenty of life left at 47k (lots of freeway). I plan to run them to the squealer...

On my old '04 TL 6mt, I changed my Brembos at @48,000 miles
I was amazed at how long they lasted. I was not easy on them also.
I have an '08 TLS now, but only got 20,500 miles and still stops well. I will have to check em at my next oil change and tire rotation.

I wanted to see if I can last a bit more but my service advisor told me I only had 3mm left on the pads that I needed to replace it soon (less than 3k miles).
So I did and paid $375 for new pads and they resurfaced the rotors. The odd thing is that I didn't hear any squealing..

My brakes make a sound when I am stopped at a light and I gently take my foot off the brake pedal and press it again after the car rolls a little. Is this the squeak/squeal that you guys talk about? On my maxima, I had frozen rotors with EBC redstuff pads-->best combo brakes so far but those squealed right from the time the pads hit the rotors until the car stopped, this was a continuous squeal. So if there is a TSB out, is it for the former description or for the latter?

I changed my '04 manual's front pads at 25,500 miles, not because they needed it (they still have around 35,000 miles left in them and they're still in my garage), but because I hated all of the dusting. The replacement pads are still on the car at 69,200 miles.
My next door neighbor has an '05 manual with over 80,000 miles on his factory pads. His is very easy on his car and most of his commute is highway.

I changed mine around 33,000. They started squeaking so I just changed them but when I took them off, there was definitely a lot of pad still left. The wear indicators started hitting the rotor causing the squeaking. I replaced with the autozone ceramic pads and love them. Impressed thus far. The brake dust is still an issue and isn't much better than the stockers. I hoped for a lot less dust but oh well...no complaints here.

you guys with over 20K must live where there are no local roads. They must be mostly from highway driving. I live in NY and my brembos lasted 15K although the dealered had recommended to change them at 10 K. 32K for brembos? Insane~

I changed both rotors and pads at 55K. Pads were wearing low but the rotors I just wanted fresh ones on there.
Now that I think of it, the previous owner might have changed them out once before. So year I'm guessing mine lasted about 25K.

x2, im at 12k and the Brembos have maybe 5k at most left in them. City driving eats away at these pads.

No me. Whenever I drive my TL to work, I commute through business and residential areas with their stop signs and stop lights.

You may not be far off, though. Younger people do tend to be a little harder on their cars than older people so your point is probably correct.

On my 04 I got between 50-60k out of them.
I don't recall exactly I would have to go check my receipts to know exactly.
I baby the brakes, downshiting when I can.
I let them go too long and had to replace the rotors as well which didn't make me happy.
I do mixed driving highway / city. I know they're Brembo's but I'm really not sure how all you guys are only getting 20k or less out of them.
On a normal manual transmission cars I've owned I can usually get close to 100k on fronts and more on rears, so even ~50k is actually disappointing to me.
