They don't wear out quickly. I have two TLs: an '04 manual and an '05 automatic. You probably know that the manual TLs come standard with Brembo brakes up front. The OEM pads are performance unit which means high metal content and a softer composition. They DO dust up.

I changed the front pads on my '04 manual last April at around 25,000 miles. Based upon the amount of remaining pad material, I would guess they would have gone around 45 - 50,000 miles. The reason I changed them was because of the dusting which was making me nuts.

My wife's front pads still have a lot of meat on them and she is under 20,000 miles on her '05.

It seems pretty early to change pads but you never know. On my BMW, I had to change the front pads at 10k miles and I don't drive crazy.

I've got 31K miles on my TL and I'm going to the dealership to have them turn my rotors and change out the pads.

I've got a 04 5AT. Will the pads start to squeak when its time, or are there other indicators?

The wear-indicators will squeel when it's time to change em'. Or if you ignore them like my room-mate in college.... Sparks will fly out of your wheels when you press the brakes

Ahh, but I'm sure the sparks were a great indicator that you needed new brakes.

04AT... I never took my vehicle to the track, but I drive pretty hard and just recently changed out my rotors and brake pads. I've been on the OEM brake pads for about 38,000 miles, and I don't drive conservatively either. I wouldn't recommend waiting until 38,000, they had maybe half a centimeter left on them when I took them out...

Changed the rotors for fun, not because I messed them up :P

BTW, Canon makes awesome SLRs Although, I'm stuck on the 30d for now.

You can always take a flashlight and turn the wheel at an angle and look for yourself. At least this will give you a visual (although slighty obstructed) on the brake pad wear.

Currently I have 75,000+ miles and I'm still using original pads. I do mix driving 50/50 including D.C. traffic, but still I have some pads left. I will be changing Rotors and Pads soon though due to warped rotor.

True..

We have a 5 year old Z71 4WD Suburban that we pull a 6000+lbs of boat/trailer with.. It currently has ~ 83K miles and we have yet to change brakes... Every time they rotate the tires I check, the pads still have ~70% material remaining.... The rotors have never warped either....
I don't now about other guys but I am impressed with em....

My 04TL has over 20K now and the brakes/pads still look like new. The only reason they wont last to 60K is I will probably swap them when I have the rotors turned due to warpage.... I hardly get any brake dust on the TL or Sub...

Not to mention rotors.... I've never seen rotors so chewed up in my life... Mechanic said we were lucky we didn't get into a wreck on the way to the mechanic

And to think it was a new M3 at the time too

But anyways..... As for mileage.... On our 2G TL, I replaced the brakes at 35,000 miles....

As for the poster that said he had 98,000 miles.... You talking front brakes or back brakes? Because on my Pontiac Grand Prix, I have 132,000 miles on it... I've replaced the front brakes many many times... But it's still on the original back brakes, and they appear to still have plenty of meat left.

I can't remember if our 3G TL has Brake Force distribution, but I heard that usually balances the brakes more, such that your fronts and backs should wear at a closer rate, which is how the brakes are on my G35. Fronts and backs are wearing at similar rates. So it's either becaues of EBD, or because I take corners too fast, and trip the stability control more than I should

It is a 2004 bought in 05/2004. I replaced the front pads for the 1st time at 98k. The rear pads still look very good.

Had my fronts changed out at 28-30k miles due to warped rotors and slochy braking, they replaced the front pads and turned my rotor all under warrenty (thanks acura of glendale)
however im at 47k now and my brakes been sqeeking since 2k miles ago, but my rears still look brand new! I checked it out while my car was in for a rotation/balance

My front rotors are warped at about 58K Kms, and the pads need to be replaced. Seems to be a common occurance for me as in my previous TL's and Accords. I'm driving a 2004 5AT. I will likely change rotors and pads to something that's hopefully more robust.

With a 2004 TL, your TL might be covered under the TSB where Acura replaces rotors and front pads for free. I would look into this before you pony up your own cash for front brakes.

I looked at the cases where the rear rotors tend to rust. I don't have that problem. My front rotors warped from heat according to my mechanic... a little blue as he puts it. Given my university going children drive this car ...occasionally.. I think looking into something more robust may be worth investigating.
