Wheels - OEM & Aftermarket 17"/18"

As you all should know by now, the OEM 17 wheels is a 8" width with a 235/45-17 Bridgestone all season tire.

The OEM optional (and supposedly standard A-Spec) setup is 18", 8" wide, with a 235/40-18. The 18" is made by Enkie for Acura and has a 5 bolt 114.3mm pattern with a 45mm offset.

Tires.com 800-589-6789(call and talk to Dave Ext. 438) has been VERY helpfull and has provided tons of info. (They have a thread somewhere on this forum).

My Pearl White / NAVI, do to arrive any day now, will have the TSW Rib wheel in an 18" with a slightly wider 35mm offset and a larger tire 245/40-18 (Yokahama AVS db S2). See photo.

The stock 17's will wear performance snows in the stock size.

Hope this helps with the wheel mystery!

Actually I only saw them in 17" ! See www.tires.com and select, Whells, and then 2004 TL then 18" to see what they have.

Did you purchase their "ride match system"? If so, do you think it is necessary?

FWIW I belive the OEM wheels are 8.5' wide with 235/40ZR18 95W Yokohama tires.

Here is the link on the tires.com website. I guess if the salesman didn't pitch it to you, it must not make a big difference.

Great choice on the new tire. I have been looking at the same tire and the same size. The 245/40 18 gives a little more side wall and width for a smoother ride. The Yokohama is rated as possibly the most quiet tire with great performance, and it can be had for $166 a piece.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The above site has a great calculator for comparing different tire sizes. The tire recommended has too thin of a side wall for my taste even though the 245/40 18 will through off the speedometer slightly.

I want to see if the dealer can get this tire for me to have it all intastalled when I pick up my car; I have no idea if they will do it though.

Remember to compare your 18" to the OEM 17" size! It is barely off and actually is a closer match then the OEM 18" tire size!

My dealer is buying back the stock tires (at a discount) and mounting my wheels. I am keeping the 17 rims for snows.

Thanks for sharing your wheel info taschroth! I like the wheel you picked out, good choice. Have you photoshoped it to a TL? Have you talked with anyone about ride quality of 18's vs stock 17's? Post pictures when you get yours

Cool White TL + Spoiler comparisions

CLICK HERE >>> White TL with accessories

I have not have time to put them "on" the car but this will give you an idea of the look. I borrowed the TL from another post.

The white is set up with the lip spoiler and ground effects and there is a back-to-back comparison of a silver with the lip and wing.
