Unhappy Wheel chip..............what should I do?

After taking my TL to get washed, I noticed a teenie chip on the edge of the drivers side rear wheel no wider than a dime. In fact, I didn't even see it. I rubbed my hand across the wheel and felt it. I don't know when or how it happened. I don't think it was the car wash from the way it looks. Maybe a stone bouncing up or whatever.

I guess my question is what should I do if anything? I was thinking maybe a few coats of clear nail polish to seal it. I am not sure if it will rust or not. Maybe I should put a few coats of polish on and just leave it alone. Maybe I should go out for a few beers and forget the whole thing! Any comments?

I'd put some clear coat over it to make sure that it doesn't corrode. Then go have that beer and forget it. That first ding or scratch is the worst (almost cosmic), then you forget about it.

I never heard of a wheek chipping before? You sure it's not a scratch from a curb or something like that?

If it bothers you too much, there are plenty of wheel refinishing places that could make any scratched/chipped wheel look like new for $50-75.

Spud (user name) had posted before and after pics of his damaged wheel and it was amazing. My boss has an S55 AMG and had his wheel refinished and it looked great.

Mr. Wheel was the name of the place here in the Midwest.

Just know that these places are available if it bothers you too much.

It bothers me in the sense it is the first blemish I have noticed. I certainly will not lose any sleep over it for sure.

I was concerned about rust showing through thats all. It certainly is not worth getting professionally fixed the way it looks now.

I can definitely relate to "first blemish-itis", that's for sure. Bad thing with you as that you're not too sure how it was done - guess it's almost better that way.

Yes, and the first door ding drives me crazy. That's why I ding my door the fist day, so I can get over it, and the second wont bother me as much.

As to your wheel, a little clear coat couldn't hurt, but go ahead and polish them each time when you do your car.

I think that is a great idea. I am going home and take a hammer to the hood. At least then I will know how it happened and every other ding or scratch will be minor by comparison.

I did look in a few auto stores for clear coat in a bottle (not the spray type) and could not find any. Got any ideas? Sorry to be a PIA!
