Why would they use plain names? That would be so boring. It's all about marketting, they actually think of these names with adjectives. Not only that but there are different shades of every color. What should you call AM then? Grey? How about CGP? Grey with a lil more blue? C'mon man are you not able to figure this out yourself?
Why not question everything else in the world that has an exotic name? Might as well call Acura "the car" lol. They even thought about Acura when naming it. Ever think of the definition of "Acura"? There is none. It just sounds nice and sounds like the word "accurate". They figured it was a catchy name for a lux-brand and they were right. Lexus got it even more right, that is an awesome name.

IMHO the color names have gone a bit too far with auto manufacturers. I still don't know what color my TL is. I call it silver, but there are two different Acura names for silver over the last couple years so I'm not entirely sure which one my '08 is.
Last December, when signing up for a parking permit at work, they asked my car color. I told them I wish I knew.

I kind of like the cool, creative color names. Standard names would so blah.

The names are pretty descriptive and represent the colors very well. Carbon Bronze- Bronze with a touch of darkness added... Duh!

As far as the paint color names go, I don't think they're lame at all...I think Acura chose pretty awesome names for their colors....Nighthawk Black Pearl for example sounds mysterious whereas White Diamond Pearl sounds elegant... I dunno but since Acura is a luxury brand I would say its important to have appealing color paint names as opposed to just calling their cars Red, Blue or Gray.

Seriously?
No, really, wtf? Seriously?
Glacier Frost Mica?
Breakwater Blue Metallic?
Liquid Platinum?
Lakeshore Slate?
Windveil Blue?
Black Ice?
Thunder Gray Chromaflair?
You seriously didn't know car companies (and paint companies and ....) did this?

BTW, it was sometime around Henry Ford.
1961 Pontiac: Fernando Beige
1960 Ford T-Bird: Springdale Rose Metallic
1959 Buick: Pearl Fawn Metallic

Haha when it came to Acura, I also have always associated it to the word "Accurate". And I also agree that Lexus got it even more right.....what a sexy name! Thats why I named my TL "Alexa" lol. I also like the name Infiniti.

Not to mention, metallic and pearl are actually quite descriptive of the paint.

I only use Acura's names on this forum, when speaking to non-Acura people they would think you're retarded if you said your car was "nighthawk black pearl" instead of black.

But among car people who know Acura colors, there is a big difference between Flamenco Black Pearl and Nighthawk Black.
Flamenco is a much 'truer' black for example

-walks into paint store-
"yeah. I need paint for my car."
"what color?"
"black."
"which black? Black, black, black, black, black, black, black, or black?"
"Uh. .. Black?"
Isn't it nice that I can reply with "Nighthawk Black Pearl" so they know it's not, say, the Flint Black on a CRX?
