the one in front of the radiator it is
you can see it from underneath the bumper
or through the hole right in front of the hood lock
mine looked so rusty i ended up spraying it with some daubert VCI wax
seemed to have worked perfectly
formed a black shiny coat, which almost looks like paint
so, whatever the heck it was - now it's going to last
still a weird part ...

hmm... even if i had a cam it's so tight and dark there, i doubt it would have came out good

 

it's right up the center
and looks like some kind of counter-weight
roughly about 8x1.5x1.5 block of solid metal
right behind the top edge of the front license plate
can figure out what it's for ...
and why they let it rust so bad

 

If I am guessing right about what you are trying to describe, it's a damper to absorb bumper vibrations.

Check this thread for a description and see if that isn't what you are talking about.

wut a coincidence..my brother and i were just looking at this piece of metal this afternoon while my parents went to grocery shopping. I was wondering how come my brand new car has that RUSTY piece of metal behind the radiator fans. Now i know :p Learning new things everyday from this forum hehe
