What's interchangeable...

I have an 05 and I was wondering if the headlights are interchangable with the 07 type s headlights?

What other parts are interchangeable?

Thanks in advance.

Headlights are not interchangable...front bumper is different. Tail lights and sidemarkets are, however.

WRONG... it has already been done... I can think of 2 members that have done it... the bulb harness are different on the turn signals, that is all I believe

the grill is not interchangeable as the type s is slightly larger and I mean slightly... the middle cover wing behind the A is interchangeable... as well as the top hood accent... the chrome v shaped trim piece is not interchangeable, the rear honey comb mesh requires some cutting to fit in the rear of the non type s bumper...

that is all for the front bumper...

headlights are the same iirc. the larger grille opening doesnt affect the shape of the headlights.

everything is interchangeable with the acception of wiring because the harness that plugs into it is different. EXCEPT for the steering wheel and gauge cluster....unless u have many hours to spend integrating the systems....which i doubt anyone wants to do.

Also, the ballasts wont fit on the headlights perfectly.. the sizes changed... it can be done, but its a PITA...

04-05 is one type of ballast
06+ is the other type

Ordered my type s rear bumper today and it is getting painted as we speak

recap:

I have an 05 TL

HEADLIGHTS FIT, BUT turn signal housing is diff and ballast is diff, also, type s headlights use the headlight "fog" as DRLs, they are aimed higher and if you put the bulb made for the DRL (which i believe to be 9005) the backing will not fit. I shaved the two plastic tabs off so the connector fits into the bulb backing.

FRONT BUMPER FITS (I HAVE ONE ON) BUT It takes some trial and error to put it on due to the lower grill fog housing (it comes in contact with the bumper absorber)

REAR BUMPER FITS (I HAVE ONE) I will be installing it monday when it comes out of the paint shop, this should be 100% swap.

Step 1: type s headlights with halos

Step 2: type s front bumper, foglight-less

Step 3: lower fogs installed with HIDs

I put on the aspec kit but didn't take pics of it yet, and once i get the type s rear bumper with ATLP quads, i'll post pics of those too.

THEY CAN BE DONE

yeah i was guessing there would be a problem with the 04-06's not having any DRL's.. but i guess you figured out a way.. just needs some define ingenuity.

thats a good feeling the aspec front from an 07-08 will fit.. but the whole fog light housing in contact with the absorber.. have you found any solutions?

nice choice with the atlp and type s rear.. i was going to do the same.. looks like you'll beat me to it though.

GREAT INFORMATION brian... wish I could rep you on az

well I don't think upon final installation the absorber really "touches" the foglight housing per se, only when fitting.

Absolutely no problems whatsoever, HID fogs running strong.

Yeah as soon as XLR8 showed us pics of the new fitment of his new exhaust, I was all for it but not a SINGLE person had wayward penchants towards the XLR8... everyone heard good things about the ATLP, and testified excellent things about ATLP... XLR8 still has an issue of fitment.

I have an 06 does that mean I could reuse my ballasts? This is on the list for me but trying to get STEP 1 out the way first.

Yes, lucky for you you can re-use the smaller sized ballasts.

bforbrian... high 5 for posting on this thread...

word of advice if you install the type s bumper, do so without the garnishes till you get the quads... or else you'll find yourself back at the dealer ordering a pair...
